#bones knife

The forged file knife originally from Bones http://bonesknives.tumblr.com and its new sheath seems to me to fit very well together with the forged Hawk also from Bones ,

File knife leather .

 Its taken some time to get around too but have finally made up a leather sheath for this forged Sheffield  file knife that I originally got from Bones last year .

The veg tan leather has been wet formed , double dyed for an aged effect  and then distressed on the workshop floor .

  Its set mainly for horizontal small of the back carry via the two copper saddlery riveted loops  but Ive also made up a vertical belt loop extender that allows for either a high or low ride in a vertical carry option .

X-file.

This 5mm thick naked kiridashi started life as an off-cut of bearing steel in Bones workshop .

Bones used the off-cut steel to practice some file work on for one of his gorgeous Bowies knives and then passed me on the off- cut at one of our knife maker meet ups at my workshop  to turn into a kiridashi .

 After profiling the scrap steel , it was ground and heat treated and I then dark etched in ferric before stone washing and sharpening .

Practicing techniques with the Bones knives / Ru Titley knives  collaboration AK knife .

 Battening then feathering cedar wood fuzz sticks , collecting and cutting birch bark and King Alfred Cake tinder fungus , striking Light my fire Army fire steel and keeping it all going .

I'm very proud to announce that Bones and I are going to be making up a limited edition run of these AK knives and I will soon be showing the larger  AK Max version that were working on for a good customer , so will update as soon as its completed .

Kiridashi's are back .

 Just got a load of kiri's back from Bone's,  a real mix of various steel Ive cut out and shaped for this next batch .

 All need a clean and sharpen ,quite a few to scale up , loads to wrap and a few naked neckers too , as well as my 1st Tanto style  ! and a large leaf shaped full flat ground that I'm a little undecided upon but am sure 'Ill make something cool out of it .

Bones Buffalo hunter .

This beaut almost Navaja style clip point blade was originally made by Bones knives from old saw blade steel .

I got it from him direct about a year ago but have only just got around to fitting some scales to it .

 I chose to handle it in Wenge wood over double copper clad G-10 liners, I've wire brushed the wood exposing the softer grain making for a gnarly textured grip .

Pins and lanyard tube are hammered brass , the blade was dark etched with a slight hint of copper then stone washed for an aged effect .

The top edge of the clip point has been sharpened at a 30 degree angle whilst the main cutting edge is 25 degrees and am really looking forward to making up a sheath for this .

I got these two back on Saturday from Bones working his magic on the grinds and heat treatment along with a few other blades .

These were shot just as they've come back to me and you can clearly see the heat treatment colors so will need a clean up and a sharpen .

The smaller of the two which I didn't show before was the test piece as I wanted to be sure that the tri- laminate bronze / steel would hold together in his furnace and we weren't 100% sure if the central steel core would even harden .

The good news is that it seems to have done , .
