So, I’ve got this friend (who we’re gonna call London), and they take classes at our local zoo. These classes are what introduced my friend to the main focus of this story, a person who I’ll refer to as BoneBoy. When I asked London for a description of BoneBoy, they responded with ‘Roughly [height], originally from [birthplace], literally just has piles of bones everywhere in his house, super good at art, instantly knows what species a bone comes from just looking at it’. (Excuse my information censoring, it’s to protect personal information. You understand, right?) Now that you know a bit of what to expect, I’ll pass along some of what London has told me about him. According to London, he’s really good at finding bones, and he finds a lot of them. Everywhere. Like, when London’s class was on a trip to Yellowstone, some of BoneBoy’s more notable finds were: a bison vertebrae in a tree, an elk leg bone embedded in the driveway of their campsite, elk bones literally sticking out of the mud by the stream they were using for water, and a fox shoulder just sitting by the side of the road. Also bleached snail shells almost everywhere and a fossil of some ocean creature (some sort of small shellfish or trilobite, from what London’s told me, they weren’t too sure). Honestly, at this point I’m convinced that he has some skill that affects spawn rate, and until I get some believable explanation for that tree bone, that’s what I’m gonna go with. However, what truly classifies BoneBoy as a cryptid is what he does. On the Yellowstone trip from before, he wandered off from their lunch site while they were hiking (looking for bones, of course). Once he was about 30 feet off and obscured by bushes, he very calmly called out ‘There’s a bear back here!’ It was alive, and far too close for comfort. He and London stumbled across a ring of deer bones, out of order and very clearly arranged intentionally, around a tree. There wasn’t a single living plant in the immediate area of said tree. Guess what happened next. BoneBoy fucking picks up the bones and keeps them. He apparently still has them. He found six or seven bird wings in Yellowstone. To clarify, he didn’t find wing BONES, he found bird WINGS, fully separated from the bird, with the muscles and feathers still attached. He also encased a mouse skeleton in resin, but not in the shape of a mouse, no, he organized it so that it was in the shape of a spider. Believe me, I know exactly how unbelievable this sounds, but there are pictures, and I will post them as I get them.

So I painted

I’m still trying to figure out what these two are, but they’re trying to figure themselves out too so I think it works out fine. My favorite characters to draw, I’m trying to get at least 5 or 6 of these short lil’ stories out by the end of the summer to compile into a zine or something. Stay tuned.
