Rising at 3:30 a.m., I tried something new. I attended the Spirit of Boise balloon classic. First, in near darkness, the three Dawn Patrol balloons rose to patriotic music and spun and dazzled all of us who were there so early. Then, at dawn exactly, more than 40 balloons from all over the country gave a special show, of taking off synchronously, which has only happened one other time previously (you have to have special conditions). Massive thanks to my friend Sharron who braved the cold and her daughter who helped me see it through her eyes. It felt like the end scene in the new Mary Poppins movie where we were all flying. A very moving and tremendous experience.
