Hi there! Can't seem to ID this bug; iNaturalist is sure it's a boxelder, but I'm not too certain that it is based on its underside (colored black) and its patterns not matching up with boxelders I've seen in the past. Lower Santa Clara county area, California. Pic taken today.

but for an actual answer, i have a soft spot for wasps, and true bugs (smaller and more ground based than beetles). id have to say my current favorite is the genus Boisea, box elder bugs.
here's Boisea trivittata
and Boisea rubrolineata
they're regional species, B. trivittata living on the east coast and in the midwest of the USA, and B. rubrolineata living on the west coast. Their division is actually debated, seeing as their only significant difference is the prominent red-orange veins on their backs.
