Here a parallel can be drawn very easily between Slade and Bobby.

The obvious difference is that while Bobby is immediately sent away to serve as a lab rat, this event, although very similar, occurs much later for Slade, when he is already married and established in life.

Now as for the rest...

We have two young men (a literal teenager in Slade's case; it also should be noted that Bobby is later revealed to have significant developmental delays and never really grew up)

Easy preys for the army's machinations, as they have no real family to warn them about the dangers of being in the army. (The recruiters don't seem to care that Slade is lying about his age. The complete lack of information about Bobby doesn't matter. It's just data that makes them more malleable by the military.)

Other characters assume that both come from poor backgrounds (Bobby is referred to as "white trash" and Slade, by his own standards, especially in Rebirth, could also be negatively referred to in this way) and miserable circumstances :

"What else could they have done anyway? They're trash by society's standards, so they might as well make themselves useful."

Both have troubled pasts, violent fathers. They wanted to find a way to get ahead in life, and the military was a respectable and easily accessible path.

And ending up as lab rats for the very structure in which they had placed their entire faith only served to reveal the scars.

Then this evening I saw Bobby Bailey, one of the founders of Invisible Children. He basically gave an overview of how IC started which I thought was really necessary because it seems like a lot of people think Kony 2012 is the beginning of a movement, while in reality this conflict has been going on for decades and Invisible Children has been involved for a really long time. He was so passionate and enthusiastic and it's crazy to see how these three guys took such a huge risk and created something so influential. 

I've been thinking a lot about what people have been saying about Kony 2012, and holding my tongue when people say negative things, or incorrect things because they do not agree with our government getting involved. 

But, I have been behind this organization since I was 17 years old, that's 6 years now.. I consider that a long time. And it would be wrong for me to hold back now. One thing that Invisible Children has taught me is to stand for something I believe in, it would be wrong of me to not speak my mind.

For those people who have negative things to say about their finances, watch the video above.

For those who say that the Kony film is just all Hollywood, well yes you are correct. Of coarse it is. How are you suppose to tell a story without emotion? With out a story? This is a story after all. A story that has gone on for years.

For those of you that think that we should not get  involved with other countries problems... Well remember the time we didn't do anything about the Holocaust, or Rwanda? Why should we chose to repeat history in anyway. Why should we sit aside and let children grow up in fear just because it isn't in the US? As a citizen of the US we may be going through a financial crisis but that should not be the deciding factor if we should all be allowed to live with opportunities, or really just live.

For those who believe that Invisible Children can really do nothing? Well you are obviously choosing to not see the obvious. They have. They have built schools, made jobs, etc for these people. They're main purpose of these films is to get you to know that YOU can be apart of change. At the end of the day we are talking about people being stripped of their rights, being taken away from their families. Not just people, children.

This is a campaign, so whether you're talking about it negatively or positively you are talking about it. You are bringing attention to it. This is something that should affect you, because you are not just a citizen of your country but you live in this world. We are a global community.

(Side Note: Also as a Public Relations practitioner, and working in the social media field they are just plain genius. And this is all my personal opinion, you are entitled to yours as well, good or bad.)

So... I can't even with the amount of attention this is getting. It's completely inspiring.

I want to share my experience... even if it sounds like I'm bragging. I've always had a connection with Invisible Children. I know two of the guys who put this whole thing together and braved the action going down in Uganda. I donated my spare change to Jason Russell for his first trip to Africa. My friends and I made Africa hats and Africa bags for the cause. We did the first Global Night Commute with our homemade signs and shirts. THEN SUDDENLY... the guys were on Oprah and Larry King and the cause was getting attention in places across the sea. Now Kony 2012 is being talked about among celebrities and being globally reblogged or retweeted or just TALKED ABOUT in general.

This cause has made it SO FAR and it's beyond inspiring to 1. see my friends succeed and 2. see them gather a worldwide ARMY to fight the genuine evils in the world. I want to say that the guys are superheroes... but they are making us ALL superheroes.

God Bless Invisible Children. Or... no... God Bless the WORLD that decides to stand up for those that aren't allowed to stand up or even speak out for themselves.
