We've had some memories cropping up recently, we remember very little from our school years especially if it's before around 13 years old. And we can never really remember having an honest to god, solid friend group? Majority of the time if people said they liked us they were pretending for a quick laugh or it's because we were convenient.
Perhaps thats what we can blame our difficulty maintaining a healthy friendship group on now. Definitely something to work on regardless. Just, how does one make friends? It's such a deep concept that we never really thought much about until last year. Perhaps if we knew that sort of stuff we'd have kept more friends, or not, Partner says they weren't good people to be around anyway.
I'm pretty sure one of the memories is of a teacher trying to TEACH us how to make friends in the first year of secondary because we hadn't had much luck and the body's mother was worried about it. Shame we can't remember any of it. Although I think I also remember getting yelled at for picking the wrong answer in regard to making friends once with that teacher so, maybe it's best we don't? I dunno.
We have friends now, a best friend even! And I think we do ok maintaining the relationships there? I'd hope so seeing as our best friend has been our bestie for a year. He seems to understand our issues with relationships though and understands it, he's nice. And of course, our partner is another relationship we've maintained really well over the last 2 years! They also understand our difficulties.
It's really frustrating to be like this, it's something we're working on though! And we're hoping to successfully maintain many more relationships in future, both platonic and our romantic one.
