But, are you really?
I am having a hard time today wrapping my brain around the internet this afternoon. Seeing different situations that at the end of the day just do not matter. Red Cups. Joy cups. Models in see-through dresses. Politicians that belittle and stretch the truth. Today is Veterans Day, and my Facebook Timeline is flooded with pictures of heroes and sheroes in uniform. Posts respecting and thanking those for this service. Its also flooded with responses to last night's debate in Wisconsin. 11 men and 1 woman got up on the stage and continued to spew plans, hopes, and fabrications of truth to us. These are the ones that we "Pro-Lifers," "Conservatives," and "Church folk" have rallied around to restore our great nation. And, yes, I'm one of the them. #TeamChristie #TeamFiorina As I listened to the debate last night, I can't help but think. All of those on stage call themselves "Pro-Life." But, are you really? Life is defined as, "the condition that distinguishes organisms from inorganic objects and dead organisms, being manifested by growth through metabolism, reproduction, and the power of adaptation to environment through changes originating internally." Ben Carson really struck a nerve with me in his closing. "In the two hours of this debate, five people have died from drug-related deaths, $100 million has been added to our national debt, 200 babies have been killed by abortionists, and two veterans have taken their lives out of despair. This is a narrative that we can change. Not we the Democrats, not we the Republicans, but we the people of America, because there is something special about this nation and we must embrace it and be proud of it and never give it away for the sake of political correctness." This is what Pro-Life means to me. Its caring about the babies in the womb. Its about caring about the mental health of the 17 year old mother-to-be who knows she is not what's best for that child. Its about the mental health of a veteran who is back, all in one physical piece, but changed, and not for the better. Its about the endless amounts of homeless. Its about the single mother of 3 whose father(s) ran off, and the courts can only do so much to make him support his "burdens." Its about the young man who was abused as a child, and the only thing he has found to numb that pain is heroin. Its about the young black child who runs home from school because he's terrified of what he'll encounter on the way, but gets stopped by a crooked cop, because they can't think of a good reason why he'd be running. Its the exhausted, diligent police officer who is really not sure what the next stop he makes will hold, and if he'll get to go home to his family. Its the gay teen who was kicked out of her home, because her mother can't have a sinner in her house. Its the barren woman who would give anything to have a child, but even adoption costs make that dream seem out of reach. What are we pro-lifers doing to fight for them? You can't pick just one. Its all in or none. We either love the life of people. Are the programs we're developing actually helping? Are we investing the money wisely? That multi-trillion dollar debt I keep hearing about. Anybody who does their family budget can tell you. You don't go on vacation, when you won't be able to pay the power bill the next week. If you're pro-life, you have to be pro-life about our nation's well being, too. You have to want a balanced budget where we are still protected. Where we aren't frivolously throwing money to projects that don't work. You're either part of the problem or part of the solution. So. You say you're pro-life. But, are you really?
