In honor of this, just thought I could make a small joke doodle for these two. I find them such,, contrasting characters and while I don't think they'd actively fight like this!! I imagine there may be a few disagreements here and there, and the puppets of Duchess' house can only watch nervously when the two ladies spat.

I don't have the best grip of Milady's character just yet but goodness was I surprised reading about her and felt so bad learning of her lore TT to give some context, Milady has experienced sexual abuse from men who would use her after the theatre's closure, naturally, I can only imagine Duchess would feel horrified learning of it since I don't think she'd imagine that ever happening in the theatre.

Do correct me if my wording at all here is wrong in anyway as it is a delicate topic!! but nonetheless, I like the two characters just because of how they can contrast and potentially clash at the same time, both women seem hardheaded and easily defensive — which is ironic since they hold such charm and beauty as well so I imagine their interactions are pleasant sometimes 💖

This isn't to confirmed them as married btw WAHHAW It's just for a joke, though they'd be an interesting married couple, a concerning one for sure lh

Blálilja/ Blue lily, Day 10: Basalt, pen on layers of vellum, 11 x 14 in., 2019. In addition to studying plants, I also spent a lot of time looking at rocks. Bær is situated near basalt cliffs that I loved to climb down and around and sketch.

Today on Nami takes random photos of her doujinshi collection: ‘Watashi no Kodoku wa Mitsu no Aji’ (My Loneliness is Honey-flavoured) by Bluelily. Pairing is my fave MikaIchi~♡♡ And since the title uses ‘watashi’, it probably means Ichigo is the one saying it.

And only just realized that Ichigo is actually completely naked under his blazer on the cover! And I love how Ichigo’s eyes, which are closed on the cover, are starting to open on the back cover. I think of it as signifying that he’s beginning to remember~♡

Anyway, Ichigo can’t remember Mikazuki but still feels a strong attraction towards him, so Mikazuki offers to help him remember him by well, trying to trigger his memories of their previous intimate relationship thru being intimate!! He also asks Ichigo to call his name and Ichigo goes with ‘Munechika-sama’ while Mikazuki calls him ‘Ichi’.

Sexy time happens and afterwards, Mikazuki remembers the last time he ever saw Tenka. (Tenka calls him ‘Mikazuki’.) Tenka was quite depressed and said things like how that was their last meeting, how nothing last forever and how their fated bond/relationship was over (probably coz Hideyoshi is dead and Mikazuki has to leave with Nene soon…). Then Mikazuki looks over sadly at an exhausted Ichigo who is now fast asleep beside him and reaches out to stroke his hair, and is basically all ’must protect Ichigo’~♡

Blálilja/ Blue lily, Day 14: The Lake, the Mountain, Oil pastels, gesso, and pencil on canvas, 36 x 54 in., 2019. 

Inspired by the mountain and the lake that were the backdrop for the residency, this drawing is the largest, most time consuming piece I made at Bær. I didn’t finish it there but had posted an early version toward the end of the residency. I’ve been working on it every Sunday since my return and it has changed--now the forms touch and blend into one another and there are more layers of material. 

This piece was (is) definitely a learning experience for me. I had never really worked with oil pastels before and I found them to be very challenging. I needed help so I watched YouTube videos for basic techniques and pointers. I also talked to the other residents and consulted with a friend in SF via text. Blending and muting tones with white and gray was a big thing for me. I used this technique along with turpentine and a wash of gesso thinned with water to blend each layer. Of all the techniques I touched on, this is the one I really loved and one that provided results that felt like me. It softened the colors, allowed for accumulation, and added that layer of translucency that I have used in many other pieces I have made. I plan to keep working with this material and I would love to go even bigger. I also feel like there is more work to do on this piece... 

This is my last Blálilja/ Blue lily post. It’s been great to share my residency with you and it’s been so helpful to me. I’ve gotten a chance to process what I worked during those two very special weeks and now feel like I have a list of departure points for forthcoming works.
