Crazy, Strange Laws and the end of Code Academy
We just finished up project 5 this week! Yay! This project was to create a campaign for a blue law. This required alot of components. We created 3 banners/billboards and a mobile and desktop site.
I chose the law that in Gainesville, Georgia, fried chicken may only be eaten with your hands. The first three banners shown here were my original design. At first, I chose to create illustrations to represent my law. Although I had fun creating these illustrations and thought they turned out nice, they weren’t as effective as actual photos of chicken. There is also an overload of color and there seems to be more emphasis on the background than the actual chicken. The next shown are my final billboards. So, I went to Kroger, bought lots of fried chicken, and had a photo shoot with said fried chicken. I also chose to leave the background white in order to draw your eye directly to the chicken. It was fun coming up with slogans for this campaign also.
Next we made wireframes and then moved on to creating our web designs. Starting with mobile was definitely easier than desktop. I was really happy with the way mobile came out. I think if I were to change some things I would work with the type some more because in some of the body copy it seems a little difficult to read.
The desktop was more difficult to work with because it seemed like images were too large and awkward while text was too small. Invision was the most difficult though. I created a single page with anchors and currently Invision doesn’t allow you to anchor to different parts of the same page. So, to prototype I had to create different pages for home, about, and additional resources in order to get to them from the navigation menu.
I also placed a few of my mockups above. You can see the mobile home, desktop home, and headline/about on desktop. Putting the design into mockups makes it seem so much more real and really helps to visualize the over all design better.
And in final news, we finished Code Academy! I have learned so much from Code Academy that I never even knew was possible. Before Code Academy I didn’t realize what went in to designing a website from scratch. Everything has to be coded from colors to lines to type which I had no idea or even thought about before now. Next up we will be designing our personal website so I am interested and somewhat nervous to see how my coding lessons will come in handy!
