Old Gods: Day 10 - Bluebill

In Finnish mythology bluebill (or tufted duck, they were often the same bird in Finnish myths) is the creator deity of this world. There are many variations of the story but the basic premises is the same. In the beginning the bluebill was flying above the dark ocean of origin. The mother/goddess of water raised her knee from the ocean and the bird thought it was a tussock so it landed and lay its golden eggs on the mother's knee. For some reason the mother of water moved her knee so that one of the eggs fell from it and cracked. The egg shell pieces became the world, the earth and the sky as well as the sun, moon and stars. Waterfowls in general were very important birds to ancient Finns and there were many beliefs related to them. They were such important birds that in some occasions ancient Finns were even called "the water fowl folk". The water fowls were strongly associated with music and their song reminded people of the sorrowful songs of their long lost loved ones. The bluebill was a special bird because it had the ability to fetch things from the bottom of a lake which was something not even the pike or other water deities could do. The bluebill was able to fetch tears that had fallen into a lake and transformed into clams of pearls.

I originally planned to draw my OCs to practice human anatomy but then I realized I still don’t have consistent designs for them so I drew these human looking (non-)humans instead.

It was actually pretty fun to search on Tumblr, Deviantart and AO3 for references. Also, drawing Miz’ hair is so fucking satisfying idk why but I love it.

I wanted to do shading and a better background but it got really confusing with navigating the layers and backgrounds just aren’t my strength... Maybe I do the shading some other time when I have better experience with it.
