This took 12 tries and 2 different accounts to get the prompt right. But it was definitely worth it!
Our class is currently learning about AI(such as chatGPT & Idiogram) and we had the chance to use Idiogram.ai.
The teachers also taught us about how AI used the art they collect from artists without consent or compensation.
So there is still a lot of room for improvement for the laws regarding the companys that develop AI and the art industry.
AI basically collects every single artwork available on the internet and uses them as a dataset for improving the art it generates. So the image it generates with a prompt would be what an 'average' of what someone would draw on that topic.
This wouldn't be a problem if the artwork used in the data was used with the knowledge of the artists. However a majority of these AI art sites haven't asked for the artists consent.
The reason I posted this even after knowing this is because it is currently a part of my learning course and wanted to share my experience. AI art can be used for good under appropriate conditions such as drawing backgrounds or filling in blank spaces where as before artists will have to fill it themselves. Which, for individual or beginner artists, is hard and takes a lot of their time.
As long as the artist only takes credit for the parts they worked on themselves(not claiming the AI art as their own), AI art has great potential for helping out in the process of creating.
I feel like AI drawings have a lot of upsides as much as it has downsides. AI art can be a great tool for art improvement and practice to save time. And bring ideas you had to life for you if you have difficulty drawing.
However the current AI art sites have almost no regulation or compensation policies for the artists who helped make this feat possible. And there is also the issue of plagiarism.
I just hope that the companys who've made these AIs will realise that these artists depend on their artwork for food & money and the art is their rightful property. And will compensate for the work they have done to help build the AI.
And I also hope there will be more laws put in place for punishing the sites that straight-up steal and butcher other people's art without the consent of the maker.
