when i like 8 and beginning my dive into unsupervised internet access i kept vividly daydreaming parts of the internet as a physical place you can reside in. it changed depending on the site or app but with the one i regularly used, we were all living in a town or apartment complex. decorating your profile was decorating your home. you would visit community centers. bots were weird dangerous creatures that wanted to kill you but moderators kept them at bay. any sort of special event was like a festival. people that sold their art would have an actual physical shop. there’d be so many art galleries. making a public chatroom was like hosting a party.
