Happy Block Day! No more collecting troll comments for me!
If you weren't aware I've been collecting troll comments over the past year for my thesis and another project. I have about 3,000 right now and I have 4 months that I need to screenshot. I'll be transcribing them over the summer.
Another Block Day of Awesome - 5/24/13
Here's just another pretty sweet day from the life of Daniel. (first tale was over here) It includes yearbook signing, World Domination, not failing Spanish, Ultimate Frisbee, Good 'ol Graphics, Key Club, Board Game Club, D28N DCM, and an 8th grade awards night.
The Prelude The Day before, I got to take part in the 'lil Student of the Month celebration, since I got Student of the Month for Social Studies. Since the AP World History exam had passed, we were working on our final project: World Domination. Jaena, Jesstin, and I were able to finalize the last phases of our plan, as all the recordings would go on the day after (being this "Day of Awesome"). Brett had to leave our late-night session early, but luckily things worked out in the end.
So in the morning of this most glorious block day, I continued to collect yearbook signatures. I'd list the names, but there are just so many. I also started getting my teacher's signatures. (By the end of the the day, I had 5/8). I saw Jiang while I was downstairs, too.
World Domination During AP World History today, we began the filming of our World Domination video. I was semi-dressed up with my blue dress shirt, tie, and khaki shorts. Jaena had a black dress and blazer; Brett had his coolio Adventure Time shirt; Jesstin brought a white collared shirt and tie with his clothes. Brett also brought his laptop and this really kindda terrifying mask for the Inevitable. I brought a Grim Reaper hood just in case, though we didn't need it. After my AP World History teacher briefed us all, our group was free to roam the school.
The original plan was to use Mr. Underwood's backroom for the filming. However, the Engineering kids were actually doing something there for once. Then we went to the SAC, where Girls PE happened to be doing something. Since we clearly couldn't use the podium at the front, we journeyed to the stage in the back. But then we saw how it looked outside, and I got us to go do our filming there, instead. Plus, it was a nice day out! Our filming included standing on the table, sitting on the table, pacing on and around the table, and Jaena looking really terrifying with the mask on. When we filmed Brett, he wore the clothes Jesstin brought, as well as Jaena's blazer.
While there was certainly a ton of derping around, basically, I was the president of the Organization of Centralist Societies (OCS); Jesstin was the writer of the Centralist Manifesto; Brett and Jaena were leaders of the Inevitable, our equivalent of the CIA (or by Brett's opinion, our terrorist organization). Our Five-Part plan for taking over the world as Sweden involved the use of Centralism, our blend of Socialism and Capitalism. By uniting Socialist countries of Europe, as well as Canada, Chile, and Madagascar, we gained some form of global influence. Under the "Umbrella" plan (essentially the Marshall Plan), we aided developing nations by absorbing them into the OCS, then building them up to the status of the organization as a whole. After destabilizing the Middle East, China, and Russia using the Inevitable, we then stepped in swept the powers under the Umbrella. Around 8:20, we decided were we done filming, since we could probably record more audio online.
Continued in Part II...!
.
It was almost like how it use to be, but in a way not. I know how things were & I know how they are now. It was nice being able to talk to you & being around you & to have things feel so normal. We were actually able to engage in conversation about school & family & just talk again. It was really nice. I liked today. I would like for it to stay this way between us. It was refreshing.

The first block day.
1st period provided some great ideas for how to use the long periods to maximize their time and continued with their rhetorical analysis and comparing different articles to Zinsser's ideas for writing.
3rd period had an inspiring discussion about the nuances of schools and schooling, how it affects their learning, and how respect and dialogue move their education forward.
5th period rocked the rhetorical analysis using specific rhetorical devices.
