A cat cafƩ but make it ghosts
(part 4 of Amity Park tourism)
I could see a few business owners in Amity Park catering to ghosts.
It wouldn't happen anytime soon, even after ghost tourism catches on. A business for ghosts would rely on a very slim population of customers which have all of the following qualities: 1. are sapient 2. arenāt outright destructive 3. have motivation to come to the human realm beyond ādestroy/take over the world!!!!11!!!!1!ā and 4. have real human legal (as in legitimateĀ andĀ not obviously gained through nefarious/disturbing means) tender
Who in their right mind would open a shop in the human realm with such a limited target demo? Well for one thing, very few Amity Parkers are still in their right mind. For another, they don't have to market to ghosts exclusively.
I'm envisioning a cute little coffee shop that turns into one of the first safe spaces for beings of varying aliveness to coexist.
This is based off the blob ghost boba headcanon that makes rounds every so often. x x x (e.g. blob boba [bloba? can we call it that?)
A particularly friendly ghost has a rapport with a shopkeeper. One day the ghost points out that they have a very similar drink in the Ghost Zone, but it's hard to come by especially near the Fenton Portal. They get to chatting and partner up because the human obviously can't do their own supply runs.
Word gets around the Zone pretty damn fast. It's good stuff. It draws more peaceful ghosts out of the GZ, which has all sorts of potential for improving ghostsā public image. Phantom may finally get some help from fellow ghosts in keeping the destructive ones in line because better PR makes for less eventful trips to the bloba shop
ā¦God help any ghost that causes damage the bloba shop. Its patrons are incredibly protective of it. Even ghosts on catastrophic rampages will blow out all the windows of every shop on the block but leave the bloba building pristine. No one dares to put the beloved shop in peril, lest they face the collective wrath of its regulars
Setting a price is a problem. Legally obtaining human money is complicated for ghosts, and GZ money is a joke because ghosts don't really have an economy. Supplies and production are shockingly low-cost and low-effort, though, and the ghost clientele's presence is enough attract a ton of paying human customers. So ghosts drink free. Still, many of them trinkets/artifacts the human can turn around and sell, or bring ingredients to cut down on work for the ghost partner who's pretty much doing this as a hobby (again, no need for money).
The human partner seldom sells the trinkets their ghost customers bring because the gesture is so sweet. The walls of the shop are soon covered with shelves full of knickknacks. Some are just sentimental pieces, others would give any museum curator a damn heart attack.
There's also a photo wall featuring ghost visitors
Humans are wary to come in at the same time as ghosts at first. But this shop was around and beloved long before all this ghost stuff started and locals will be damned if ghosts will get between them and their caffeine fix. Tourists see locals inside without incident and feel safer joining them.
The humans visitors actually cause more trouble than the ghosts. The partners have to set rules that are strictly enforced so the human patrons donāt get too up in ghosts' business.
Unfortunately they consult with Phantom on these rules since he a) is their best customer (as a human and ghost, but they don't know that and b) knows a thing or two about ghost-human relations. I say "unfortunately" because the big sign with the list of rulesāthe first thing you see when you come through the door, impossible to missāis full of terrible puns.
Itās a sad day for the very essence of comedy when Phantom comes in with merch ideas. And punny drink names for the whole menu. They feel obligated to indulge him because he's done so much for the town and is practically a celebrity endorsement since he's rarely seen without one of their drinks these days.
I honestly feel dirty posting all this capitalist content but at least this all heavily favors local businesses since it's all contained to one town
