This explains a lot about a lot lately

While other fashion youtubers such as Mina Le and Modern Gurlz do discuss storytelling elements in costume design. Bliss discusses how a fashion designer implements story telling in their runway shows and collections, which I always thought was just "make sure the outfit is on theme" rather than what it actually is "This outfit represents how we first enter my dream, then the next one represents how it all became chaotic, and this last one shows how I woke up from it."

He also discusses other issues related to the fashion industry such as fast fashion, what is considered copying and/or plagiarism in fashion, and when is it an homage or an inspiration.

He is also the first fashion youtuber who has made me want to watch runway shows with him. On my own I usually skip the runway shows since I could just pick and choose outfits from the pictures. But if he's with me, giving analysis over details that I hadn't noticed before, then I would gladly watch one with him (even on menswear when it doesn't affect me at all).

He honestly deserves more subscribers on youtube and if you want to check out one of my new recent favorites its this vlog video on the KidSuper fashion show.

"For his Spring-Summer 2023 collection, Kei Ninomiya takes us on an exploration of a new dimension." - CDG 6/3/23

We understand its basic forms enough to conceive of its beauty and wonder at it, yet we do not understand it. 

Significant parts of the collection are reminiscent of the chaotic, beautiful world of marine life, a few looks striking a resemblance to the movements of jellyfish- full of weight; and the first few looks in-particular playing with the notion of light and reflections so strongly similar to the way light refracts through water. The looks announce themselves visually and spatially moments before they enter the room. 

We know more about space than we do of our own oceans... it’s almost like we as a humanity are frightened of the unknown- but if it’s far enough out of sight it’s palatable. 

The contrasting colours are reminiscent of the unpredictable nature and depth of that in what photographic technology in space has to give us. The bows- at first are confusing as to their role in the overarching theme of the collection-  but my opinion is that they represent the folds of concepts that we again, don’t comprehend, like how many feel when they see black holes or have the physics of dimensions or wormholes explained to them. 

and I don't think I'm too far off in referencing space because one of the models literally looks like a comet... massive rock on her head, metallic structures like planetary rings, black void shorts...

There's meshes, colour blocking, padded pieces, the HEADPIECES, that look almost like a parasitic exchange with the model- the headpieces are so insane (Takuro Kuwata @takurokuwata) and some of the models are altering their walk to accommodate the balance of the pieces.

and I haven't even talked about the closing amoeba look yet. and i dont want to. just look at it and decide for yourself. (IM BEGGING YOU GO WATCH THE VIDEO ON commedes garcons yt)

Kei Ninomiya is annoying to critics and enthusiasts because he doesn’t use moodboards (at least that we know of) and dislikes working with themes. but I am nothing if not an over-analyser, so I took that as purposeful. like maybe that plays into his exploration of ‘dimensions’ and the unknown, because why would you spend time compiling external noise when the wonderous thing is in the way he fundamentally perceives (at least while thinking of the collection)- and therefore he can just spend time breaking down what he sees instead... 

Maybe someone remembers the xkdchatguy who dropped a meta physics video as a tween and then dipped. He presented a theory on how each dimension can only percieve in the previous form... so 2d can only see in 1d, and we can only see in 2d (without light and depth indicators our eyes would see cartoon- hey maybe that explains anime escapists)... etc etc for the other dimensions (in theory). 

Too far off track- lets get back to it. 

In that way, I’m kind of viewing this collection through that scope of Ninomiya trying to communicate something incommunicable... you can’t comprehend it so dont try- that’s the point. ‘The expectation is that our only expectation is that our internal expectation is wiped clean from the very start’. Bliss Foster: Paris Fashion Week for Chanel (new channel) As much as I love fashion so much of what is made over the years seems to be about doing something different for the sake of being different, not really giving much attention to whether it would appeal with their clientele. And for that, I think the future of fashion has really no where to go but weird since all the designers before have made beauty & celebrating the human form its chief goal, what remains is changing the fabric & more or less coverage. It's not like they would design things for those who have a third arm or leg, the form of the body is pretty straight forward & the super rich may or may not go for the new fashion designs they push out each season..

The height of vanity & #fading glory is this industry bc to wear an outfit more than once goes against the message of luxury & excess, non? I find it odd to see male models who are so emancipated, they are not able to walk completely upright..as though it pains them to straighten-up (prematurely aging themselves)

And maybe ppl are on their phones the entire time the show is going down bc they have been let down one too many times by these fashion shows and are bored with the idea of having to not cringe through whole shows of one mistake after another? [23:10]
