My entire mom’s side of the family chews with their mouths wide open and I am going to scREAm
So I've been thinking... People will go on about how Madoka Magica is misogynistic and uses the relationship between Madoka and Homura to appeal to a male crowd, when Life is Strange has so many similarities and I'd argue comes off entirely more predatory and creepy. There's the mostly female cast, then the storm caused by a character innocently wanting to help, the tragic lesbians trope, and a surprise villain that preys on teenage girls. But my argument for Madoka Magica is always that even though the girls are taken advantage of by the villain, their efforts to "escape" are never treated as useless and a couple times they even manage to defy the cruel laws that confine them to misery. The plot can be seen as a metaphor for the internal struggles the girls endure as they grow older and how it affects them. Whereas Life is Strange concerns an older teen and her childhood friend unraveling a mystery which leads them to witness a cruel reality, and in the end the life lesson is that she shouldn't have tried to fix anything and her friend has to die. Everything about it screams helplessness. Max doesn't go through any development for the final scene to be symbolic. It's basically just a slap in the face. Add that to the fact that it seems like the universe is punishing her for caring about her lesbian lover.... I can't even go on... Life is Strange is just so bad. I wish I could have written this clearer but hopefully you understand what I'm saying.
