y’all rly thought i wouldn’t ramble abt this  !

so i wanna talk about the yo-yo   (   and likely other toys   )   as somewhat of a coping mechanism or distraction.   it’s not hugely deep,  but it’s no secret that richie is a big old bundle of energy.  his mind runs at a mile a minute,  and toys that keep his hands occupied are a huge help to keeping him a little more tolerable around other people.   if he’s using a yo-yo,  he’s not hassling and prodding at others.   i’ve made the fidget spinner joke with a few people,  and i know that’s a huge meme,  but seriously,  modern richie would find a lot of help from those,  as well as any stress balls or other hand toys.

his parents’ attitude toward this is hugely dismissive,  particularly his father.   his dad canonically has an interest in sports and works as a dentist,  so i figure his career views for richie either involve something athletic or hugely academic and,  of course,  spending hours on end trying to make a yo-yo sleep is neither.   a time waster.   that being said,  both parents recognise he’s less irritating with a toy in hand,  so leave him to it,  but not without the passing remarks that it’s a stupid hobby.
