#bleak post

okay, so this might turn out to be a more controversial take than it should be, but it’s my personal and thoroughly-considered opinion that any justice system which sees punishing the guilty, rather than protecting the innocent, as its primary function has fundamentally failed to deliver justice before it even begins its work.

listen. the darkness is not needed to show us the light. the bitterness does not help us appreciate sweet things. our suffering doesn’t make the good times more precious. i know. i got rid of mine, and every moment is better for it. anyone who tells you having so little helps you appreciate what you’ve got is either telling you the same gentle lie they’re telling themself to get through another day, or trying to keep you from objecting to the scraps they’re leaving for you.

um, there's so little i can do to help anything and what's the point of working til you die when the world in 10 years is looking bleak and just feeling hopeless at 2am again bc i can't even enjoy my time off as im /chronically ill/ now and cant even enjoy basics like eating or sleeping anymore nvm the things that used to make me happy

To expand upon a point made by Zach Weinersmith in his comic, SMBC: Yes, the past is a foreign country. Yes, they do things different there. But the other, far more terrifiying side of this idiomatic coin is that the future is also a foreign land, and the laws of Nature herself will drag us from our homeland to meet it. When we arrive, we will find a place that we do not understand, for which we have no remembered fondness, and which has no use for us. But the ferry only runs one way, and we all die on foreign soil.
