❛ I love you, you know that? ❜ // @blastcd
The words always made Bobby’s heart flutter in his chest, made him feel warm and bright and wanted for the time it took his heart to travel from one heartbeat to the next. With most people, the feeling faded the moment the echo of the words disappeared from the air. It was a fleeting feeling, one Bobby grew bored of in an instant. The ‘love’ that Bobby often claimed to feel was little more than momentary infatuation, shifting and stretching and vaporizing in the blink of an eye.
With Sam, the feeling was different. With Sam, it was a long-lasting, permanent kind of thing. Sam said those words, and Bobby felt like he was walking on air for weeks after, like the sidewalk was clouds beneath his feet. And Sam probably didn’t mean it that kind of way. Bobby knew it. Sam was a friendly guy, loved most people with everything he had, and that was okay. Bobby could deal with being one of the people Sam loved just so long as Sam loved him. And he did. Bobby knew he did. That was why he’d come here without bothering to give a word of warning, why he showed up at frickin’ Magneto’s place just to see his best friend.
“Yeah, yeah,” he said, grinning as he threw his arms around Sam with little warning. “I love you, too. A whole heck of a lot.” Bobby lingered for a moment, counting Sam’s breaths. One... Two... Three... When it got to five, he pulled back, keeping a tight grip on Sam’s shoulders as he looked up to meet Sam’s eyes with a critical wrinkle to his brow. “Did you get the stuff I sent? The chef was from Paris. She comes with really good reviews. And the nutritionist is the best one in Europe. He specializes in early childhood development, makes dietary plans that help kids grow better. We’ll keep him around until Josiah’s in danger of being taller than me, then we’ll tell him to stop growing. I gotta be taller than somebody.”
