The conversation has always been rich and nuanced, the differences between DuBois and Washington were stark but they were in conversation with one another, deepening the discourse around freedom and equity. "In all things that are purely social we can be as separate as the fingers, yet one as the hand in all things essential to mutual progress." he famously said, accepting racial segregation. I personally don't agree with this, but it does make me think about Why Are All the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria? and the protective, self-preserving aspect of POC self segregating. While I may not align with every aspect of the platform Booker T. Washington built, I respect the fact that liberation is never one size fits all. The way history books outline Black liberation in the US is very neat, very brief and ultimately erases the tensions and collaborations within various movements. This is harmful. This is ignorance. This is a strategic manipulation. We need to understand the nuances of liberation in order to make space in the struggle for everyone. . . . #blackhistory #blacknow #blackfutures #blackfuturesmatter #blackhistoryisamericanhistory #blm #webdubois #bookertwashington #liberation #decolonizementalhealth #socialwork #socialjustice #socialworkforsocialjustice #growth #whitehomework https://www.instagram.com/p/CLZ1lwKjJtt/?igshid=16jiin76pbqvu
