SO WHAT EXACTLY IS BLACK AUGUST??? #BLACKAUGUST is a time to honor the spirit of those who went to war against this country before us. 💪🏾 A month of standing with political prisoners and prisoners of war. The core tenets of Black August are to FAST, STUDY, TRAIN and FIGHT 🔥 Black August began in California prisons in 1979 and it began being practiced by Black freedom fighters throughout the country. August covers a vast history of the Black struggle against America, with each day recalling a pivotal moment in the history of Black existence. Pivotal moments such as the first Africans arrival in Jamestown on August 20, 1619, the beginning of The Haitian Revolution on August 22, 1791, the murder of 14 year-old Emmett Till on August 28, 1955 and death of unarmed teen, Mike Brown on August 9, 2014 are just a few events tied to Black history in the month of August. We are asking you to join hundreds of us from around the country in Fasting, Studying, and Training as @blackmenbuild continues to lay our foundation. We'll be sharing education and history all month on our Instagram. Get involved throughout the month.
