December 4th 2018-Prompt #11-“Knowledge is Power”
“Cass, where the hell are you taking me?! You have told me literally nothing about this!” Fae exclaimed in total confusion.
“I’ll explain soon. Just trust me.” Cass laughed, Sapphire flipping and bouncing around him in pure excitement.
“I will Stormcaller your condescending hunter ass right here and now if you don’t explain.” Fae yelled as we walked into the dark doors.
“Ok alright, you know how I dabble in gun crafting and building my own weapons?” Cass said.
“Yeah, you forge your own rolls to your fighting style even though your fighting style is super weird.” Fae said, still lost.
“Well, let me tell you, someone took an interest in me a few decades back. They liked my ideas and gave me my own workspace and the promise that I’d have no red tape. Just create weapons of death as long as they are reliable and incorruptible. Naturally, I accepted. Unfortunately, it’s also a hidden secret that the Vanguard refuses to tell you, but after months of pleading and explaining that our enemies were getting smarter and more deadly, Zavala allowed me to oversee negotiations between me and my secret partners.” Cass explained, typing in the password in symbols rather than numbers.
“But why tell me about this now?” Fae said, her ghost, Crusoe, floating behind her.
“Because I got thinking. Your favorite weapon is a machine gun, right? Well I figured, hey, let’s pull something together that she will absolutely love to use. And with my unlimited resources, giving you a first hand look before we release these to the public wouldn’t be such a bad idea.” Cass said, itching with adrenaline.
Fae smirked. “I doubt you of all people could make something I would enjoy.”
“Au contraire, madamoisselle!” Cassus retorted. And with a flourish and a few more pressed buttons, the final door opened to reveal a mile of cases and kiosks filled with experimental weapons and tech that had never seen the light of day.
Ada-1 turned from her screen to see them. “Ah Cassus, it’s been a while. The materials for that sniper you were building just arrived. They’re waiting at your desk. Excited to see what you can do with them.”
Cass shook her hand. “Thanks, A. I’ll be sure to forward you the details when I get it put together.”
“Cassus, you are aware that we do not allow Lightbearers in here outside of yourself.” Ada glared at Fae, oblivious.
“She’s a friend. And she has the same goal we do.” Cass confirmed.
“I hope you know what you’re doing...” she dismissed.
He turned around to see Fae in complete awe.
“Amazing, isn’t it? Soon, this place will open to all guardians and, for once, we’ll be a few steps ahead of our enemies instead of beating them off of our doorstep.” Cass said, proud of his well-kept secret.
“This place is amazing! What do you call this place?”
Cass smiled genuinely for what felt like the first time in a long time. “Fae Samuels, I’m glad you asked. Welcome to the Black Armory.”
