The Way We Were

Set a year after 'The Horn and Fin' (Attoye) There is Isolation, Regret, and Truth. Isolation stands guard at her bedroom door during the day, cold and silent. By night, its bony fingers gently guide her toward the shoreline, where the cool waves lap at her feet, ushering her into the waiting embrace of Regret. Regret drapes its heavy shawl across her shoulders, so weighty that she feels as if she might buckle under its weight. And then there is Truth. It visits often. Never speaks or begs; it only watches, certain that she already knows. Isolation stiffens, lips curl in disdain, and Regret bares its teeth. They never address Truth, as it was a mirror they refused to look into. - When Truth approached her, Isolation's skeletal form beckoned her towards its cold embrace, while Regret, with her twisted grin curling around her, urged her to run to escape what Truth would reveal. Is facing the Truth truly worth the potential pain of change--that could either heal or break her even more... Or, In her struggle to find peace, is staying in the dark the only way to protect the little comfort and familiarity she has left?
