“anything a black person does is black excellence.” if I do the bare minimum - within the context of my individual circumstances - no that isn’t excellence. this is infantilizing bullshit that assumes we all come from the same place and have the same experiences
i just lost some followers b/c of my black classism posts
good riddance. y'all are probably the same people that say "black people gotta unify instead of getting so divisive all the time"
talking about classism w/i the community is important to get there though. just confront your damn privilege
But like. Let's be serious.
Being called an "oreo" means that you have "desirable" white traits that make you more palatable to white people. It means you are an "other" to blackness. In a system that thrives off of getting as close to whiteness as possible how is that not a privilege that benefits you to some degree?
Getting upset about being called an oreo when you were 5 is akin to lightskinned people getting upset that that 1 mean dark skinned person told them they were too light to play with them.
Grow the fuck up and stop trying to make it seem like we're being oppressed for being middle income.
