bobobies have a pretty smooth quality to their resin. i’d start with a lower grit sand paper, like 400 - 600, to shape out the nose and then smooth it out with higher grits starting with 800 and finishing up with around 1200.

also grind in small circles, not up/down motion, it’ll leave scratches.

yup, always use an air drying clay for mods, never bake-only clays.

paperclay is also a good option but i think it’s more water soluble which can be difficult to deal with when removing faceups.

don’t use the light-weight stuff like this because it doesn’t have a good consistency for blending. (but it’s good for removable accessories like horns)

apoxie sculpt is the least water soluble, but has a rougher texture without sanding.

head flopping is usually a sign of tight (or snagged) stringing, fairyland bjd’s are *really* well balanced but it can be difficult to get their elastic tension right.

it sounds a little rough, but try pulling the head away from the body while it’s attached to kind of stretch out the elastic. also try pulling on the legs: if one leg seems stiffer/tighter than the other, that’s the one you want to even out (by pulling it). it’s weird but 90% of stringing problems are in the legs.

for resin matching, it depends on the year the head was made. fairyland tends to keep their “normal” skin very pale, but depending on the year/age it can either be more yellow or more pink

as far as i can tell, impldoll wouldn’t be a terrible match, but they have some neck problems with the hybrid and doll-love would most likely be way too pale.

little monica seemed to pop up a lot in recent (2015-206) searches, but they also have neck problems if you have one of the smaller fairyland MSD heads (like carl or woosoo) (but it’s just for the neck being too big, which is an easy mod)

well if you’re able, one way around poor weather is to spray the piece inside a box outdoors and then immediately bring it inside (to a well-ventilated room) to dry (and then stay away from the room until it dries, don’t take off your respirator until you’re away from it). if you have a box with a lid with holes in the top, it can cut back on fumes while drying (or lightly covered with a paper towel i found works too).

unfortunately some days are just *too* hot/humid/cold, but the above tends to work between 32c to -5c, if you’re really desperate.
