up the wolves by bitterbones
Brother Kylo Ren is called upon to investigate a string of mysterious deaths in a small northwestern town. It's supposed to be an easy job; the culprit is an obvious case of unchecked lycanthropy. But too quickly he stumbles back into his painful past, and in doing so he uncovers so much more.
It was then, as she inhaled to speak, that she really caught his scent. It gave her pause, throwing off her game as she struggled to place it. It was far too earthy to be human, with notes of sweetness that befuddled her. Perhaps his size was inhuman, though she could not see how he was anything else.
âCan I help you?â He said, lowering his scone back to the wooden tabletop.
Rey gave her head a quick shake, banishing the scent from her nostrils. No. He had to be human. He was no wolf, and she would see through any fae glamour or vampire mind trick. He was their mark. Maybe.
Hi loves, I just want to take a moment to rec @dvrkreyâs TROS fix-it fic Broken Things (we are). Itâs quite cathartic to read and the characterizations are spot on.
Also, if you havenât read their Reylo zombie-au Lockjaw yet, (like, a literal masterpiece) do yourselves a favor and go read it now too! :D
Hi. First of all, youre a great writer. The amount of time and effort you put into your shit is awesome. I think that says a lot, and I'm sure most of us readers can agree on that. Second, I'm not sure if you have explained this before but I always wondered what do your name(s) mean? Why bitterbones and why did you choose Aspidities? Much love, thanks!
Thank you! That means a lot â¤ď¸
Bitterbones comes from a line of a poem I wrote a while back:
These bitter bones/ lay down in better homes/ than I have any right to claim
(Mostly I just like alliteration. And 87 is my birth year.)
Aspidities is the name of my favorite snake genus. The name means âshield bearerâ in Ancient Greek, and thereâs only two members of the genusâthe woma python and the black-headed python. A woma python was my first snake, and heâs still with me today, so the genus as a whole holds a special place in my heart. It is not, as many folks have assumed, because it sounds close to âAphroditeâ or âass n tittiesâ, but I applaud those people anyway.
This is Ramsay, the derpy inspiration behind the name:
(Heâs not dead. Thatâs just....how he is.)

Then she was in the air, above him, over him in a blur of flapping white and glistening tan. Acrobatic and glorious, his fulls lips parted and he sucked in an awed breath. Something, darker, more animal stirred in his gut and between his thighs. He pushed it down deep, clenching his jaw.
After watching that teaser trailer this got me shook. Beautiful start!

One night, laying in bed side-by-side, Reyâs honey gaze turns to him, observing him in the guttering candlelight. âWhen was the last time you bathed, Ben?â She runs delicate fingers through his hair and they catch on a knot.
Blinking, he struggles to remember. A week maybe? He doesnât think to very often, it feels pointless, or he simply forgets. Energy is hard to come by these days. So many excuses for such a simple question.
