Live music and I definitely don't get along like we used to, sadly I'm at the age where I could be going to see my favorite band and at the back of my head I'll just be worried about the long trip home
But this week was different. My brother mentioned a band called Bit Brigade were going to be passing through the area, and it was his birthday, so I got us tickets
Bit Brigade do modern rock/metal instrumental covers of popular classic video game soundtracks, but it's a little more complex than that, what they do is have the fifth member of their band, speedrun one of these classic titles, on a projector at the back of the stage, while they don't just play the music from the game, but play it exactly as it should go with the gameplay - titles, menus, interstitials, overworlds, victory music, and more.
In short, it was phenomenal. Last year they came through playing Double Dragon. I couldn't make it. But this time they did F-Zero and Super Mario World. The music of my childhood, played expertly, in front of me after all these years.
They had some amazing T-shirt designs, but I had to go with the classic Zelda vs. Ganon art. We played with blotchy pixel abstractions but this artwork in the strategy guides and gaming magazines was what really added to the legend.
If you get the chance, please do go see Bit Brigade. I will certainly keep my eyes peeled for when they should tour near me again.
