It's hard to capture the essence of Bishop Castle in a photograph. The most important thing to know, however, is that this place has been built stone by stone by 1 man, Jim Bishop, all by himself. A true example of DIY, he started building in 1969 with the goal to provide a place for the people. The castle, near Rye, Colorado is open during daylight hours every day of the year and runs solely on donations from visitors. It's truly amazing to see what this one man has accomplished in his lifetime. We was working on the mote during our visit. There's even a fire breathing dragon at the place! It's really far out and very much still a work in progress. As a heads up, the castle is a bit sketchy and isn't really ( little ) kid friendly but it's an incredibly special place and well worth a stop to check out if you are in the area. I climbed up the spiral staircase 160 feet ( 16 stories ) to the top of the castle and looked down at the tops of the trees below. Quite a phenomenal, breath-taking experience. Be sure to support his cause by donating or buying something from the gift shop as well. The place is rare gem in this day and age for sure. Bishop Castle Colorado

We made a quick excursion to Colorado this past weekend, and crammed as much as we could into our one full day plus two twelve hour drive days. Before we left, we visited Bishop Castle, and it was proven that I am still afraid of heights. And so, this is the picture I give you! Because I couldn’t do the towers this time.
