Step-by-Step BIS CRS Registration Process

Step 1: Make an account and generate login details on the BIS CRS (Manak) portal.

Step 2: Make a test request for the wireless keyboard model and select the BIS-approved lab.

Step 3: Attach the QR Code generated by the system with the sample and dispatch it for testing.

Step 4: Testing the sample in the lab for electrical safety, electromagnetic safety, ergonomics and other general safety parameters.

Step 5: Filing the application form with required documentation and paying the fee.

Step 6: Review of submitted documents and test report by BIS – No factory inspection is carried out.

Step 7: After obtaining the approval, you will receive the R-number and affix the BIS Standard Mark & label to your product. 

BIS CRS Fees for Wireless Keyboards

Fees vary based on applicant turnover, number of models, and the testing lab chosen. Approximate ranges:

Application Fee – ₹1,000 (Domestic) / ₹1,000 + applicable processing charges (Foreign manufacturers); payable through the BIS CRS Portal.

Registration/Annual Fee – ₹5,000–₹10,000 per model, per year; varies based on the applicable turnover slab.

Laboratory Testing Charges – Approximately ₹15,000–₹40,000; depends on the BIS-recognized laboratory and the required testing scope.

Authorised Indian Representative (AIR) Appointment (For Foreign Manufacturers) – One-time legal/consultancy cost; not a BIS fee, but the cost of appointing a local representative in India.

Validity, Renewal & Labelling

The BIS CRS license is normally issued for a definite time period and can be renewed for another 2-5 years period. Application for renewal has to be made at least 3 months before expiry through the BIS CRS portal. Any changes in the manufacturing plant, AIR, or legal entity need to be reported to BIS. The approved product shall bear a permanent marking which is water-resistant and abrasion-resistant and can be in the form of printing, embossing or metal plate. It should include the following information: product name, model number, brand name, manufacturer’s particulars, country of manufacture and the R-number.
