Birnau bei Überlingen am Bodensee in Baden-Württemberg, Southwestern Germany. Überlingen on the northern shore of Lake Constance is the 2nd-largest city in the lake district after Friedrichshafen. Its official history dates back to Roman times, but many settlements pre-dated Roman occupation. Stone age settlements discovered along the shoreline document that the lake supported several dozen thriving communities of 50–100 individuals. These settlements fall under the category of the Hallstatt culture; their habits, dress, and diet has been illuminated through the excavation of archaeological sites, such as a major site in Hallstadt, Austria. Similar sites have been found around Überlingen, near Hodingen and Dettingen, and a major site near Unteruhldingen, where there is now an open air archaeological museum. In this old culture, the dead were either burned or buried in mounds or flat graves; women wore jewelry made of bronze or gold, especially earrings. Tools uncovered suggest that these communities engaged in a combination of hunting, fishing, and agriculture.
a weekend in the small town you spent most of your childhood and youth at can be nice, but also boring as usual. the only thing I always, aaaaalways look forward to is this view.
