This was the cautionary tale we presented for BioWatson. All video editing was done by my genius groupmate, Sangwoo Lee.
Coming up with this final narrative took weeks. I believe it took around 6 very different narratives before we came up with this final one. During the 5 week cycle, I think only the last two weeks were spent creating this film. The first two weeks since the brief, our group kept coming up with new ideas and storyboards but our tutor would always ask us for more research to back up our ideas. This worked for us at the end because the tutors said our presentation was very cohesive but it was incredibly stressful going three weeks in and still not having a final story to shoot.
We all wanted to have the shooting done early because (thankfully) none of my groupmates are crammers and we wanted to give Sangwoo enough time for postproduction. But due to all the storyline changes, postproduction still happened only on the last week. This was a shame because we all believe we could’ve done better or we could’ve produced something more "industry standard” if we had stuck to one story at the beginning and developed that further.
I remember at the beginning of this cycle, our group had initially decided not to make a film because we were thinking of the difficulties in production, acting, editing. We considered our backgrounds and thought that going the film route would not have been the best way as we didn’t have experience in it. It’s good that our tutor had told us not to give up to easily and so we were able to produce this piece. It was exciting handling cameras and sets and props as if we were shooting an ‘actual’ film. This is something I hadn’t done before so it was a novel experience.
While most of the editing and direction came from Sangwoo, I’m proud of all of us for coming up with this concept. We all were able to contribute in the production of the narrative and in the filming and so I think the teamwork really paid off. It also helped that we managed to get along with one another. We seem to feel we got lucky with our groupmates and so I think our hard work was worth it and we were able to produce something we’re proud of.
