"Well, what I don't understand is why you can't just use Ted's garage to store your guitars? Your drum set is already there, wouldn't it be better to have all of your musical stuff in one place?" You sat down on the bed that had been pushed up against the wall to make space for your boyfriend's collection of guitars.
Bill, in response, rolled his eyes. "That's why they can't go in the garage, y/n! My drum set is there! What about this aren't you understanding?"
You took a deep breath before responding. "How about I move my clothes from the closet into those empty dressers? That way you can have closet space for your guitars, and they will still be in the room, and neither of us has to sleep next to a cold wall." You looked at Bill, waiting for a response.
"Thanks, dude, that means a lot." Bill hugged you loosely with one arm, the other reaching for the guitar he had named "Lola." "See you after band practice, yeah?" Before you could answer, he was gone.
You lay down on the bed, staring at the ceiling. Of course, Bill had forgotten that today was your third year anniversary and that you had booked a reservation at the fanciest restaurant in San Dimas. You had saved up your work paychecks to pay for everything for tonight, including the reservation, paying for the meal, and a movie afterwards. You could have reminded him, but when? You would get in a fight if you interrupted band practice, interrupted his reading of the cereal box every day at breakfast, talked to him when he was watching TV...
You stood up and threw on a sweatshirt, grabbed your Walkman, some dollar bills and your shoes.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Long walks had always helped clear your mind or help you think through situations. Today you needed the latter of the two options.
Sleeping on it had never helped, nor had talked it out. Walking was free therapy for you, especially when you could walk at night or early evening when everything was quieting down.
As you walked along the long stretch of road behind your shared apartment with Bill, you began to think.
Ever since you both had started dating, Bill had never given you his full attention. It was always something with him, either he had to practice a new song, Ted was over at the apartment, he was watching TV, or time travelling (which you still had not got your head around, even though you had been in the box many times before). Come to think of it, he had not given you his full attention when you surprised him with the news that you had bought your own apartment.
"Bill, Bill, Bill, guess what!" You ran into his bedroom breathlessly, holding something behind your back.
Bill barely looked up from his comic book. "Yeah, what is it?"
You could barely contain your excitement as you showed him the keys you were hiding behind your back. "I did it! I bought the apartment down on Lamonde Avenue! I've been saving the money from that internship, and since I'm 18, I can legally move out of my shit parents' house! I was wondering if you wanted to... move in with me! It's a three-room apartment, with one bathroom- Bill are you listening to me?" Your shoulders slumped down, and the majority of the excitement rushed out of you.
Bill's head lazily looked up from his comic. "Huh? Oh yeah, sure, I guess I can move in with you. I'll start packing... whenever."
It had taken him five weeks to pack up his items, and another two weeks to move them down the road. You would have helped him unpack his stuff, but he got mad at you for touching his guitars.
There were also arguments. Over what cereal you bought that week at the grocery store, different chores you had assigned (fairly, you thought), and the decoration of your shared room in the apartment. Then, that thought popped into your mind.
He doesn't really love me. You whispered to yourself. To your surprise, you didn't try and push the thought out of your head. Earlier, when you and Bill had made it official, you would have laughed at such a stupid thought like that. Now, you felt that thought root itself deep inside your mind, and when you tried to weed it, it refused to budge. You slowly walked back to the apartment, set an alarm for the school day tomorrow, and fell asleep quickly.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The next day, you woke up to your alarm beeping. Bill was still in bed, eyes open, but not moving. You had to climb over him to get out of bed, as the bed was still pushed up next to the wall after last night's petty argument.
Bill stretched out his arms to you, expecting a hug like you always gave him in the morning, but one didn't come.
"Hey, wheres my hug y/n?" You shrugged as you went into the bathroom for a quick shower. Bill followed quickly behind.
"Hey, what's up babe? You feel ok?" You poked your head out of. the flimsy shower curtain to give a quick answer.
"Yeah, I'm fine, just a bit tired. Go get ready for the day, yeah? I'll see you at school." You heard the door shut behind him, and his usual hustle and bustle of the morning.
You got to school at the beginning of the second period, took the detention slip from your science teacher's hand, and passed by Billw without a smile or a small glance in your direction. Now, Bill was starting to get nervous.
Later that day, Bill couldn't find you at lunch, in the courtyard or on the football field. He even purposefully got detention, but you didn't attend that either. He drove home as fast as he could, where he walked in on you laying away from the door in their bed that was still pushed up against the wall, with muffled sobs coming from your pillow.
"y/n what's wrong? I haven't seen you at all today, why are you crying? what happened?" He gently sat down next to you, and robotically placed a hand on your back. He jumped a bit when you sat up and glowered at him.
"Your what's wrong. Do you remember what yesterday was William?"
William. Shit. You were really mad.
"I... um.." Bill stammered.
"Exactly what I thought. It was our three-year anniversary, Bill. I had a reservation at that fancy restaurant you like, and two movie tickets to Beetlejuice. I saved so much to get that night planned out. But whenever I tried to talk to you about it, you shut me out. Then you ditched me to go to band practice? It's not even that, though. It's how you never pay any attention to me. Remember when I bought this apartment last year? It took you 7 weeks to get packed up and move everything here. When I tried to help you, you got mad at me for touching your gutiars. I always try to put you as my top priority, but you don't, and it shows." You took a breath and took the time to analyze Bill's face. He showed no emotion, which made you more mad.
"I'm breaking up with you, Bill. I'm sorry, but I'm not going to be in a borderline toxic relationship with somebody who hasn't said "I love you" in god knows how long. I'll have your stuff at your parents at the end of the week. In the meantime, get out of my fucking apartment."
Bill stayed seated next to you. "I... I'm sorry you feel that way."
"Sorry won't cut it."
"I love you. I really do."
"Then why did you never show it? I tried to reach you, but I was never your top priority. What the fuck?" You spat back.
"Because... because I was jealous. Of how everybody would talk to you. Everybody is obsessed with you. Everybody wants to be friends with my girlfriend. Everybody is trying to take you away from me."
Your eyes softened a bit at his words. "Bill, nobody trying to take me away from you-"
He interjected quickly. "But they ARE. I want you all for myself, y/n." His eyes darkened with rage.
"ALL. To. Myself."
You quickly jumped off the bed and tried to walk to the bedroom door, but Bill's hand was quick to grab your waist.
"Where you going, babe?" His hand jumped to cover your scream.
"Mine."
Since its Bill and Ted day here are some headcanons I have
Ted is an excellent soccer player.
Bill is actually not at all athletic like he works out but athletically he's lacking
Ted hated finger painting as a kid because he has sensory issues
Bill had an eyeliner phase but if it's brought up now he changes subjects so fast
Ted can't tie his shoes so he's always leaving them untied
Bill hates Ted not tying his shoes so he does it for him until he decides to buy Ted some of those no tie shoelaces
Ted has very bad time blindness
Bill has decent enough time management to keep them together
Ted's special interest is something like really niche Involving the ocean
Bill's special interest is rock music
Y'all these boys are not neurotypical at all
They've been best friends since pre-k and at some point tried to convince the teacher that they were related
Bill was actually the tallest for a while but then Ted had growth spurts and became taller
This was nice
