7. How do you choose which POV to write from?

Ohhh what a fun question! So I actually do have a loose flowchart to help me decide whose POV to use in scenes where more than one POV character is present. I only took the time to formally write it out in the last year, but it’s the approach I’ve been using pretty much since the beginning.

Since I only write recreationally, the first and most important question I ask myself is just “which character’s POV would I have the most fun writing this scene from?” which usually winds up being kind of synonymous with “whose mini emotional arc do I think offers more for me to dig into right now?”.

A lot of times I already have my answer there, but in situations where they both sound equally fun to me, the next thing I typically do is create a short hand list of what internal lines of thought the reader will only have direct access to from being in one character’s head vs the other’s. Hand in hand with that, I also ask myself how much uncertainty and tension I am looking to create for the reader with the scene. When we’re talking about Chrom and Robin in particular, Chrom is usually an easier read, which means that being in Robin’s head typically is going to leave the reader with less uncertainty overall about where each of them are at. As a result, I tend to favor Chrom’s POV for creating suspense and Robin’s for dramatic irony OR alternatively when I think her thought process is complicated enough that it’s essential to spell it out for the reader in more detail. There are exceptions of course—sometimes one of them is privy to important outside knowledge that the other is not and that tips the tension and irony in a different direction, but that’s still the line of thinking I typically use. 

If I STILL don’t have a clear answer after asking myself all those questions, at that point I just choose based off whichever one of them has had less of their POV featured recently in the hopes of balancing it out a bit more 😂

27. What is your most and least favorite part of writing?

I have two favorite parts of writing. The first is when the characters surprise me. Sometimes I go into a scene expecting it to go one way, only to discover that there is actually some complication or nuance to the character’s feelings that I hadn’t anticipated that changes how things play out. It feels like I’m getting to learn something new about them / understand them more deeply—and considering the thousands of hours I’ve spent thinking about Chrom and Robin, that’s a really cool feeling.

My other favorite part is those lightning strike creative moments when an idea just suddenly arrives in you head for a plot beat or turn of phrase or character moment and you can barely get your hands to type fast enough because you’re so excited about it :D

In contrast, my least favorite part of writing is in the mid to late revision stage when I get to a point with a given scene (or paragraph or line) where I feel like I have to give up trying to improve it because I am just not capable of doing any better at the moment. Specifically, when I can tell some aspect of a scene is not working, but no matter how many times I try doing it over, it's still missing the mark. When I’m really excited about an idea, it can be very hard to have to resign myself to the fact I might not yet have the ability to pull it off the way I want to, but I try to comfort myself with the fact I can always revisit it again some day and take a stab at it again.

63. Something you hate to see in smut.

Oddly descriptive euphemistic terms for anatomy. Think like....idk 'meat scepter' and the like. While I can understand the writerly impulse to avoid using the same words too much, I personally find that a lot of the alternatives wind up being infinitely more distracting. I am also easily squicked by a heavy emphasis on the volume of bodily fluids present. No judgement attatched to either of these of course, they are just very much Not My Thing.

77. Do you have a favorite scene you’ve written from [insert fic / chapter]? 

Answering for Half Orange since you said that's the one you'd be most curious to hear it for :D

The answer to this one depends on if we’re talking about my favorite in concept vs in execution. In concept, I think it’s probably the scene from chapter 9 where Chrom and Robin are trying to dry off after Robin fell in the river and they have Chrom’s cape between them as a changing screen. I was just really pleased with the combination of symbolism and sensory imagery that scene’s construction allowed for me to play around with.
