10. How does your Ryder feel about the memories they unlocked? for both your Ryders
Thank you! ♥
Selene wasn’t especially close with either of her parents, but she definitely had a better relationship with Ellen. Seeing her again, especially during what Selene thought was her mother’s last days, was really difficult to process, and it initially exacerbated some lingering resentment towards Alec. She was pissed that he was making her watch her mother die all over again, and she was hurt that he couldn’t have just talked to her without all the secrecy.
Selene also knew that there was something bigger than her that needed to be done, though, and she tried her best to put aside her personal feelings to figure out why he needed her to be the one to take his place as Pathfinder. Her anger subsides a little when she learns the truth about her mother and lets it sink in that Alec did love his family in his own way, but it takes a long time to heal from it all.
Learning about the Reapers, however, ends up giving her a new secret to stress over. It’s not something she brings up to anyone while they’re battling that far more imminent danger of the Kett, but after they begin to find some stability in Heleus, she starts considering who to tell and how to tell them.
Alannah has some similar reactions, but Alannah and Alec were a lot more antagonistic; Alannah often felt like she was never good enough for her father’s standards, which made his decision to pass the torch to her even more bewildering. She’s frustrated and confused after she learns he sacrifices himself for her, and she wants to be sad and she wants to mourn his loss, but her anger really blocks her processing his death.
It takes Alannah a while to even be interested in pursuing the memory triggers or making it back to SAM Node; she thinks focusing on building up the so-called golden worlds and establishing relations with the Angara takes precedence over any secret Ryder family bullshit. Seeing her family together in one of the flashbacks, though, warms her up to finishing the rest of the memories. Alannah is happy to learn that there is a chance Ellen could still make it, but she also has a hard time shaking the feeling the Alec only saved Alannah for Ellen’s benefit, not out of any great love or fatherly devotion to her. It’s not something she can blame him for, exactly, but it’s not a pleasant feeling either. Alannah tells the Tempest crew about the Reapers as soon as she learns about them. She trusts them to be smart with the information and not go around telling everyone, but it wasn’t something she could just keep to herself.
When you and your Big are tumblin’ at the same time and it’s kinda like you’re hanging out.
