âKarking hell, you still working your way through all that?â
The Jedi Councilâs most recent member looked up crossly through a dishevelled fringe, sitting on the floor (the desk long since abandoned in favour of more surface area) surrounded by pads, flimsi, notes and half empty mugs.
âWhy hello Anakin, what a pleasure to see you. Go away please.â Obi-Wan Kenobi replied shortly, turning back to his work and away from his (probably bored) former Padawan.
As the young Masterâs first ever council meeting had finally drawn to a close just a few short days ago, Master Mundi had directed him to the council Padawan on duty in the antechamber who had cheerfully set up the dazed Masterâs personal pad to download enough information to start his very own archive. He had his new meeting schedule, security clearance, code of conduct guidelines, status updates on all current projects and missions, personnel information for every Jedi in the temple, information about his allowance and the option of rooms available to him, information pertaining to classes and courses he would need to attend, and how his position in the GAR would change. Â
It was A Lot. And slowly but surely as a he ploughed through it all, making notes and highlighting, a realisation had dawned.
He was in way, way, over his head.
Obi-Wan stared miserably at the mess around him, an insurmountable amount of work.
Time for another cup of tea.
âTea Master?â
Force bless him, Anakin was looking down at him with a mixture of trepidation and sympathy.
âYou read my mind.â
---
His ordered piles and stacks of work looked much worse when you werenât sitting in the middle of it.
Silently, the two Jedi slumped on the squashy sofa now pushed against the wall, and surveyed the damage
âSoâŚanything interesting in all that?â Anakin asked lightly, gesturing towards The Mess.
Obi-Wan resisted the urge to roll his eyes.
âIts all interesting and highly importantâŚand completely undecipherableâ he snorted, eliciting a chuckle from his friend.
ââCourse it is.â He picked up one of the pads idly thumbing through before Obi-Wan managed to snatch it out of his hands.
âAnakin! Thatâs highly confidential information!â he scolded.
His relaxed friend was, predictably, unapologetic.
âYeah yeahâ he waved a hand âSo go on, what is your super-secret council member codename?â
Obi-Wan frowned.
âI donât know actually, I havenât got that far.â He admitted, turning the confiscated pad on and scrolling through. âItâs probably Mangy Tooka or something like thatâ he muttered.
Anakin laughed.
âMaster No-Robeâ
âOi!â that one earned his young friend a dig in the ribs.
âGinger Menaceâ
âIâd be quite happy with that one I thinkâ he chuckled, still scrolling through the pad. âI wonder what-â he stopped.
Heâd found what he was looking for.
âWhat?â Anakin asked, leaning towards him.
âNothingâ he said quickly.
âOooh youâve found it! Give it here, what is it?!â the enthusiastic man reached for the pad, Obi-Wan just managing to keep it out of his grasp.
âWell never you mind, it wouldnât be a very secret code name if I told you now would it?â he said smartly, hurriedly turning the pad off.
Anakin narrowed his eyes.
âNow Padawanâ Obi-Wan warned, but too late as a very inappropriate force push had him dropping the pad and it flying directly into his nosey nuisance of a friendâs hands.
âAnakin!â
âSorry Master I have to seeâ he was standing now, holding the pad high above his head and reading from below, dancing away from his former Masterâs angry grasp.
âNo way! These are soâŚcool?â he said, utterly perplexed. âHuntress for Master Ti, thatâs badass! Aw Master Plo is Golden Champion, Kriffing hells! Shield Guardian is so cool no way is that Windu â Ow!â
âAh ha!â
Obi-Wan had finally climbed over various piles and stacks of pads to give him a good poke in the ribs and winning his pad back. Clutching it protectively he glared at his irritating friend.
âAww Obi-Wan, câmon you have to tell me! I know the otherâs now!â
Obi-Wan folder his arms and huffed.
âIâll find out some other way, you know I will if I have toâ Anakin pointed out reasonably.
Obi-Wan huffed again.
âFine.â He threw up his hands. âFine Iâll tell you but for the love of the Force keep it to yourself.â He paused, checking the pad again to make sure heâd got it right.
âItâsâŚitâs Guiding Lightâ he said finally, not taking his eyes off the pad.
He could feel the tips of his ears going pink as he looked at his now silent friend. Anakin had an inscrutable look on his face for a moment before he started nodding slowly, a resigned smile growing as he considered.
âDonât you dareâ Obi-Wan threatened, attempting to head off whatever smart remark was no doubt on his friendâs lips.
In return he got a look of such abject fondness he found himself quite at a loss.
âGuiding Lightâ the other man repeated, seeming to roll it around on his tongue. âYep, thatâs about right.â he said thoughtfully.
âIâŚwell, thank you Padawan.â Obi-Wan answered awkwardly, looking down at the pad again.
Was it? It certainly didnât feel like it fit him.
Guiding Light.
An unexpected but undeniably flattering moniker. It was an odd moment of reflection, realising how his fellow council members saw him. In a dark corner of his mind, heâd thought himself appointed to the council solely because of his unique experience of war and his rather un-jedi like affinity for strategy and fighting. He was somebody who could fill a temporary skills gap for their current situation and would soon be politely asked to step down when he was no longer needed.
But they did not, it seemed, see him as a warrior but as a guide. A teacher and a leader.
He looked at the piles of work on the floor once again, sitting down and picking up his mug.
âNot your Padawan anymoreâ came the expected, automatic reply from his Padawan.
âOh I know, I know.â Obi-Wan said, sitting down on the sofa once again. âSit downâ he gestured to the seat next to him. âYou can keep me company while I keep going.â
Hope you enjoyed! This is a little companion piece to my series Councilor Kenobi on Ao3, my take (in a much fluffier Galaxy, on Obi-Wan being asked to join the Council.)

Had a bit of time this weekend which resulted in another very self-indulgent chapter/short story of my compilation!
The Clone Wars are in full swing, the Galaxy is going to hell in a handbasket and everybody is pushed to their limits. But life goes on and these are short stories, centered around Obi-Wan Kenobi, of the small moments that make up the bigger ones.
Chapter 13: Chief Medical Officer Kix attempts to give the galaxyâs most awkward Jedi Master a massage. *Very much not the sexy kind.*
What if there are big fat bumblebees in the galaxy far far away? Maybe they're absolutely enormous, but super fluffy and very mild-mannered, just interested in pollinating their giant flowers and making friends with a Jedi :) love your writing and I think bees are cute
Yaaay this was such a chuffing DELIGHTFUL prompt! Thank you so much dear Anon. I started writing this as a Snippet Of Nothing and it spiraled wildly out of control, so I've added it to my collection of short stories on Ao3!
I also got an anon prompt for "Obi-Wan Kenobi: Disney Princess" all about him chatting away to animals, and I think I covered that as best I can here too!

OMG YOU GUYS! My fic has got 1001, thats ONE THOUSAND AND ONE!!! Kudos'!!Â
Thank you so much to everyone who has read and enjoyed and left their thoughts, this is SO BLOODY COOL! Its my first one to pass 1000 I honestly never thought anything would. I remember posting a story for the first time ever (Not There Yet with sick bby Obi-Wan) and being extatic at the 30 Kudos' I'd gotten overnight.
This is such a great feeling!Â

Summary:
Obi-Wan Kenobi is possibly one of the busiest people in the Galaxy during the Clone Wars, but he is indeed only human. It takes an embarrassing amount of people to convince him of this when he falls ill, as humans occasionally do.
For his part, at the age of 36 Obi-Wan finally learns that illnesses don't actually just go away if you ignore them really hard. But that's not for lack of trying.
