I like being able to call myself fat. I like owning the words fat and fatty. I don't like having to call myself chubby, big-boned, bigger girl, plus size. I feel like all of those words fail to encompass my real heft and size.
But I also feel like it makes other people feel uncomfortable when I say it. Like they are under the impression that I am being self-deprecating and their initial reaction is to tell me "oh no, you're not fat". You know? Like they feel as though fat is a dirty and terrible word. But it's a lot like profanity in that context and intent mean a lot to me.
If you are trying to be a bitch about it and make me feel bad for something that you think is bad, like being fat, then of course it's going to hurt my feelings. It's not because I'm fat though. It's because you think less of me because I'm fat. And really that only hurts when it comes from someone who's opinion matters to me.
Talking about being and calling myself fat doesn't make me feel bad. It makes me feel accurate.
