October Update #2
First order of business: Big Whatever's first regional mini-tour with his comrades the Brrat Boys will begin this coming Thursday! Behold their itinerary... THU 10/23 - Jackson, MS @ Soul Wired Cafe FRI 10/24 - Lafayette, LA @ Frankie's Bar & Grill Restaurant SAT 10/25 (afternoon show) - New Orleans, LA @ Secret Location (RSVP on Facebook for more info) SAT 10/25 (evening show) - Shreveport, LA at the Dalzell House (246 Dalzell) MON 10/27 - Baton Rouge, LA at Culture Reggae Club If you live in any of those cities, please spread the word and come on out! Second order of business: Happy Nomad Booking's roster continues to increase in both size and diversity. I have three new additions to announce, none of which sound like each other! Rita's Gift is a power duo from Charlotte that, through multi-tasking and creative gear applications, has honed a dynamic sound that flirts with but never fully commits to hardcore, metal, and noise. Fans of other power duos such as godheadSilo, Jucifer and the Body would dig this band. I'm currently booking their first regional "long weekend," which will take place in early December. Modern Explorations is a quartet from Corpus Christi whose music is characterized by pleading vocals, plaintive lyrics and shreddy yet melodic musicianship. Fans of Circa Survive, the Fall of Troy and the Mars Volta would dig this band. I'm currently booking their first-ever tour, which will take them through the Southwest in late December and early January. Tender Mercy is the pseudonym of Mark Kramer, a Louisville singer/guitarist who writes and plays acoustic songs that possess the beauty and simplicity of haiku. I'll be booking a mini-tour of the East Coast in support of his most recent EP, "As Someone Else You Embrace the Moment in Us," in February 2015. Third order of business: As of this post, HNB will no longer accept booking projects for the remainder of 2014. My reasoning is twofold... On a personal note, I'm going to marry my fiancee (and HNB logistics adviser) Erica on December 6th. As the date approaches, I'll be devoting more time to putting the finishing touches on our wedding ceremony. If you currently do business with me, don't expect to hear much from me during the first week of December, for obvious reasons. <3 On a professional note, as HNB has grown, I've received more last-minute requests for booking help. I believe that artists should give themselves two months of lead time to book regional shows (three months for national itineraries). If they don't, the odds of getting well-promoted shows with enticing lineups and equitable payment arrangements significantly dwindle. Thus, I'm going to spend the rest of 2014 focusing on the projects that I already have. However, if you're an artist interested in utilizing my services for January 2015 onward, please get in touch! In my next update, I plan to announce the itineraries of the Madd Wikkid's and Moses Nesh's November tours. In the meantime, please spread the word about HNB and its artists, and don't hesitate to contact me about anything involving HNB and its mission. Enjoy the rest of your October! :-)

BIG WHATEVER -- "National Thrift Disco" Big Whatever (half of Snappy & Floyd) razor blade sample raids Macklemore's "Thrift Shop" as building blocks for a song of his own, re-working the horn line & beats, unassociated lyrics, & a "piss" breakdown. Released on a compilation of anything goes covers of the hits of the first quarter of 2013: http://mabsonenterprises.bandcamp.com/album/now-thats-what-i-call-mabson-volume-7
THA SCRIBBLE: A Mixtape Review of Snappy & Floyd's "Enter the Floyd; ACTS I & 2"
Artist: Snappy & Floyd Title: "Enter the Floyd" Download link:http://snappyandfloyd.bandcamp.com
"Enter the Floyd" is the two act mixtape debut of freshman Gainesville Hip-Hop crew Snappy & Floyd. I feel obligated to forewarn listeners that in order to "Enter the Floyd," they must first leave behind every prior notion of hip-hop and rap that they may hold dear. "Enter the Floyd" is an unrelenting thrill ride through the twisted and enigmatic mind of Big Whatever, the crew's front man and beat maker.
Every song on "Enter the Floyd" begins with quick bursts of pulsating electronic sounds and kick drums. It feels like an intrusion of a powerful narcotic which quickly takes hold of your ear canal. From start to finish, "Enter the Floyd" offers refreshing themes, unconventional beats, and a smooth delivery of catchy lyrics by the protagonists.
"Actor," the intro track of ACT I, is a tongue-in-cheek romp through the different facets of current pop culture with a slight sociopolitical flair. The hook is a very clever mash-up classic and contemporary pop songs.
"Don't Like Reggae," which is the second track on the album, is my absolute favorite song from "Enter the Floyd." It is a pulsating homage to the universal love that most human beings with a pulse have for Reggae music. The lyrics are clever and witty with more socio-political innuendos. The vocal arrangements of the Snappy & Floyd members on the song is as close to perfect as one could hope for.
"Unexpected Guest," is exactly as the title suggests: Unexpected! I'm not even going to give any details about what makes this awesome song so awesome. I don't want to ruin the surprise.
"Emo Songs About Girls" kicks off ACT II. "Emo...," as the title suggests, begins with an emotional and beautifully written verse about trying to reconquer a lost love. The second verse, crafted by guest MC Jack Topht, offers a brilliant and witty contrast to the song's first verse. The instrumentation and lyrics contained in the second act seem to be more experimental than the ACT I. The lyrical content and flow in "Vegetables" is very reminiscent of Beck in his prime. "Chillin (What You Want)" has the vibe and feel of a hip-hop classic with it's prominent kick drum, vinyl scratch effects, and effervescent word play.
The social and political commentaries contained within both acts are present but very subtle. The beats are fresh and addicting. "Enter the Floyd" serves as another bright and shining example of how beautiful the marriage of Hip-Hop and EDM can truly be.
Snappy & Floyd's "Enter the Floyd: Act I & 2" is an ambitious and triumphant achievement. It is easily one of the best independently produced mixtape that has emerged from Gainesville, Florida in recent memory. "Enter the Floyd: Act I & 2" is truly iconic "Classic and Iconic" and gets 5 out of 5 Mixtapes. Make sure you download the whole tape!
