BG2.1, 2018 Performance by RSY Cheung
Performed by Rachel Cheung at Bei Gao Studios, Feijiacun Village, Beijing.
China’s active redevelopment plans on shanty towns struggles to finance the increasing investments. With the current plans of demolishing artist’s studios and residential areas at Feijiacun village and Shangri-la studios, Rachel Cheung performs an envision of future living spaces at BG2 studio on a small platform of the mezzanine. She will perform imagined upgrades of mundane village lifestyles through telling stories and sound pieces, that reflect crammed and shanty ways of living but redeveloped as BG2.1.
On night of this performance, the studios received a month notice from the government for demolishing the site. As part of open studios group exhibition with artists in Residents of Red Gate Gallery, September 2018.
