Hello does anyone else have the tradition where you paint eggs and smash em against each other with ur extended family until only one survives
I almost won that once and then my uncle fucking destroyed my egg and we've never done it since so I haven't had the chance to reclaim my title
"Where the Gods came from" foreboding lore title is foreboding I won't say too much on this for now as it will eventually be explained in NoK, but I wanted to do a small bg/ environment thing for more practice. I think I'm also enjoying the heavily blacked out style I have going on so far as well, how well it will take color though is yet to be seen 🤔
I'm sooo starting with backgrounds! Woo **
These really made sense to me, the colonist / farming background (whoops) and the Sole Survivor psychological profile to wink at Kinloch (double whoops). Mentally wise, he's not starting on the right foot :'D
Also hear me out, it was either Sentinel or Vanguard - Engineer class was tempting but I would have done it just for the meme lol. However, the Vanguard profile is rather offensive whereas the Sentinel has a more defensive mid-range focus that inspired me more, so I preferred that
Biotics can be something that wink at Templars' abilities, so I had to pick one of the mixed ones, just because.
...also we're going for a Renegon alignment and I'm already on the edge of the seat because I need to ponder on what he would do rather than going straight to the Renegade options lmao

For the ask meme: 10, 15, 16, 26, 29 (if it's not to much)
10. most enjoyable swear word in your native language?
honestly not big on swearing in BG, but “мамка му” is good for letting out frustraton
15. a saying, joke, or hermetic meme that only people from your country will get?
Kinda topical, but during the initial stages of the pandemic in March-May, when BG went into pretty strict lockdown, we had a meme with the head of the covid response uuuh... governmental division? idk what it’s named, but basically they had these daily briefings and journalists often asked him stupid questions about individual cases and whether people would be allowed to leave if <whatever not actually important thing happened that they needed to attend to> and he would respond “no they cant” or “no they are not allowed (to leave their homes)” etc in a very final tone. So it became a meme format where you would put pop cultural references (and not only) that had something to do with going out or leaving in the top panel and then on the bottom there’s him responding with sth like “no, you’re not going anywhere”
(Honorable mention for “скрита лимонка” cause it’s an expression I’ve wished my foreign friends could get so many times)
16. which stereotype about your country you hate the most and which one you somewhat agree with?
I can’t think of any specific stereotype about Bulgaria rn, but two-in-one answer I guess. I hate it when Westerners talk about BG and any other EE country as a dump and about how backwards our thinking is, but at the same time as a Bulgarian (and I’ve talked to other ppl from neighbouring countries who’ve shared similar feelings) I hate how backwards we actually are. The sentiment that tolerance and being against bigotry are things that will corrupt your children is very strong and I don’t hold out much hope that much will change soon, but at the same time I will not stand for Westerners speaking in the same general way, because there are nuances to the whole thing that they absolutely do not get.
29. does your region/city have a beef with another place in your country?
I’m from Varna, on the northern side of the coast and the beef is with the other large coastal town in the south - Burgas, about which city is the best on on the coast
just answered 26, glad two people asked so now i have an excuse for going off about it there
5, 8, 18 and 26 please!
God, I saw how many unanswered ask game things I have in my inbox from long ago I’m so sorry to anyone who’s sent them before. Thanks for these!
5. favourite song in your native language?
Ok this is gonna be a meme answer, but I don’t really listen to BG music so instead of some trite song that’s not really sth I’d listen to on my own, I’m giving you “Magazin” - a song about a 24-hour shop that mostly consists of listing everything you can find in it, because “this shop has everything”. I think about it almost every time I have to go to the shop for something
8. do you get confused with other nationalities? if so, which ones and by whom?
I think the most common is with Russians, tho in Korea ppl would ask me whether I’m American (but I think that’s just because I’m white)
18. do you speak with a dialect of your native language?
Kinda, we tend to palatalize a lot of stuff in the Eastern part of the country, but especially turning “e” (like the first two vowels in telephone) in to “ee” (like in even) at the end of words, especially verbs in the second person plural is a thing I try to consciously stop myself from doing, haha
26. does your nationality get portrayed in Hollywood/American media? what do you think about the portrayal?
Not too often, there’s ofc the Bulgarians in HP and Tom Hanks’ made up country in Terminal, whose official language is apparently Bulgarian. So.... not great.
I also tend to consider “vague Eastern European” rep in Western Media cause sometimes they don’t even do you the (dis)service of saying which country exactly they are misrepresenting or it’s a vague amalgam of “Eastern Europeans are backwards and stupid”. I’m pretty sure that one lady on Brooklyn 99, who was speaking in an unknown language, but only saying one word (”КАНАЛИЗАЦИЯ”) was Bulgarian, because Idk how you say “sewer system” in other Slavic languages, but her diction seemed distinctly Bulgarian. So anyways, if she was speaking her own language and not English, why was she only able to say a single word in it? At least if you’re gonna do the “foreigner can’t speak English for the hilarity” bit, then have them speak their own language properly.
I might be a bit bitter about Eastern European rep in Hollywood as you can see.
I actually find it rly interesting that Bulgarian culture and history is actually something that "died" (for lack of a better word) for hundreds of years, and it was only through discovering and reclaiming our own culture and independence in the face of ottoman occupation that we have our modern culture today.
Like imperialism inherently destroys the culture and autonomy of the people it captures. But there is always hope for reclamation and recovery!
