DIVISIONAL ROUND: SQUIDS VS GECKOS

Ohhhhh we almost butterballed this one. The snow really made that ball a slippery little demon and got away from us a lot more times than average. Fortunately, Dante had the determination we needed to turn things around, while the defence (namely Kiesha) locked in and kept that Gecko offence from doing any more damage. We just barely got away with that one.

CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP: SQUIDS VS TURTLES

Our third meetup with these guys. The Turtles may have scored on us first, but Sally and her offence turned the defence into soup. Their air game was busy going backwards after that first TD, while our air game was flying high and far. They had no chance to recover!

With that, it's off to the big game. A rematch between us and the combo of Steve Young and Jerry Rice in the Dillos. Give these guys and inch and they can run you over.

But we didn't give 'em an inch. Only a 13 yard run and short passes, but not a single point on the board. We decimated 'em. Passing, Running, even Kicking got to leave their mark on the grand finale. Someone mind cleaning up that roadkill?

And with that, our season comes to a triumphant close.

WOO, what a rush. Even if we were pretty stacked and the CPU couldn't keep up (I mean, it IS a game made for children), this was a fun experiment. I think picking some favourites and letting the computer pick the rest is a better approach to these games. It makes you appreciate the other Backyard kids you never gave a chance back in the day. I'll happily do it again for the other releases. And the new baseball game, when that comes out this summer. Until then, this is Mr. Firestorm and Coach Marie signing off with a hearty...

To say we destroyed the competition would be an understatement. We chewed 'em up, spit 'em out, and stomped 'em. I was initially gonna put Chase at QB, his catching ability became the near-perfect compliment to Sally in the passing game. Dante found himself ruling the ground as well, making over 1000 rushing yards in this season alone.

The only team that put up a fight was John Elway's Cheeses, mainly because we suffered some really bad turnovers in the first half. But we eventually sliced 'em up and put their season on toast. These kids had some real fight in 'em.

Oddly enough, the weather was our worst opponent all season, as all but two games were played in rain or snow. Sure made that ball slippery than usual, but these kids held steadfast despite the conditions.

The biggest highlight of the Squid's season came from only the second game on the schedule, c/o Pete Wheeler and a 107-yard Kick Return Touchdown! I was worried about his catching ability, but that run speed more than made up for it! He and Chase were huge on offence and special teams. I really wish I had video of these games.
