Raindrops against the Library Window
@beyondtheflyingbird liked this for a starter
The raindrops had begun to patter heavily against the small window just overhead, each drop anew reminding the Black Mage of the weather outside while their collective came together to perform the old familiar symphony of a mid-winter rain. Truthfully, the weather was a tad bit too warm for Alexandria in this season, but it was what it was. And such a rain, albeit it was not as coveted by the children as snow would have been, was still something the Burmecian enjoyed.
Truth be told, he was heavily tempted to go outside and feel the delightful downpour on his own skin, to feel the rhythm of the falling droplets and smell that particular smell they carried, but he could not afford to do so now. Not when he had been granted such an opportunity.
All he had to do was mention two names. One, ancient and almost forgotten, but still inspiring awe in those who knew it. The other much more recent and carrying a weight only few others did in this time and age. How he had come to learn of the first and gain permission to use the second would likely be the topic of speculation amongst the scholars here for the days and weeks to come. Sceada would not divulge that information to rob them of this pasttime.
Still... to think they had actually allowed him into the secret chamber of the Alexandrian library... Most people weren’t even privy to it’s existance, and only a small fraction of those that did have ever laid eyes on the works collected in here. And he was now sitting here, studying one of these tomes. What an unbelievable opportunity.
This was no time to be out in the rain, clearly.
Two pairs of eyes kept close watch of his actions as he went through the ancient text with the utmost care, scholars tasked with making sure he did nothing inappropriate, or even worse, illegal, like taking a page out of one of these invaluable books. Not that he was the type to do that. But better safe than sorry, right?
And so he works dilligently and calmly his way through the tome of his choosing - until the door suddenly swings open once more...
