The easy small talk

W noticing L's black eye instantly

L knowing about W's trouble with Arthur and actually caring about it (unlike, no offence, holden)

L not getting macho mad at W for taking care of Jay and actually being grateful

i saw this situation in 100000+ shows. Guy has a problem(mostly a dangerous one) and is unable to fix it. Girl fixes it for him, because she is able to and just wants to help, though he didn't ask her to do it. Guy finds out and gets mad at her, because he is "a man" and she is "just a girl" and it makes him look weak that she helped him. Then there is drama and yadda yadda.

Im so gratefull that beyond didn't go that way and instead have shown L having enought respect for W that he just thanks her and doesn’t act like an ass (tho is still kinda expect him to do sth more, because that W did for him wasn't an little thing).

Back to reasons

L casually mentioning W around Holden, when its completely of topic, to apologize for her and try to make it right between them, because he knows how much does the fight with his brother worries her

Thats not really about them, but the fact that holden is totaly choosing Charlie lately (seriously, he though about her, after making out with W)

Also there are like 10000+ (totaly intentional if you ask me) paralels of them treating each other better then Holden treats them (again, no offence to holden, he has a lot on his plate and I don't mean to hate on his character, im just stating facts here).
