Unsung Heroes
In the world we live in, heroes used to come in different shapes and sizes. People found different traits and characters to attribute to men who had established great feats and labelled them saviours. People who moved mountains, rescued the troubled and stood in the way of evil. They would place themselves in the face of adversary and risk all for us so we would to be able to kiss our children good night and look them in the eyes and promise them tomorrow would be a better day. However with the rise of the machines and the fall of humanity people became shelled upon themselves and stories of marvel and wonder disappered; the age of magic and fairytales was lost to the age of science and reality. We became enmeshed in our daily routines and accepted our new found roles as cogs in the juggernaut mecha better known as society. We concentrated on being productive and maintaining a roof on our head, food on the table, education for the kids and a career for the future, things like smiling and dreaming became images of the past, family dinners were replaced with worrysome nights and a gentle pat on the shoulder with prozac. And in this world love was lost; ambition and motivation were tainted by greed and kids became driven by materialistic items such as cars and toys. Alturism gave way for selfishness and as such we lost our inner hero. This poisoned earth became a savage land with suvival of the fittest tested to the extreme; but the night is darkest just before the dawn and a the dawn of a new age is upon us. I have seen boys and girls of tender ages patrolling the streets at night armed only by their pounding hearts and the collective embrace of patriotism; men and women kissing their loved ones as they walk tall into the night screaming at the top of their voices “الشعب يريد إسقاط النظام” knowing very well that could be the last time they would ever tuck their loved ones into bed again. I have seen a nation stripping itself from fear, no I have seen a world; an arab world breaking its shackles picking itself up and dusting itself off. I have seen it scream at the oppressor and stand in his face, they screamed so loud it shook the tyrant to the core and left him trembling and no matter how hard he pummeled at us or showed his ugly face I knew we would prevail, for then we stood sky high, on the shoulders of giants; our youth, our heroes, OUR UNSUNG HEROES!
