#beta offer

Seriously. Let me beta-read your fic. I'm not asking anything for it or expecting anything from you in return - I'm just a lady with good grammar, good reading comprehension, and a big vocabulary, who has read a lot of fan fiction and wants to support the writers' community.

I can proofread English-language fics or individual chapters of < 5k words for nearly any fandom. This means that I will review for grammar, spelling, and readability, but I may not be familiar with the original source material.

If I'm familiar with the source material, I can also give you notes on characterization, plot, and canonicity, but only if you want them.

"Why am I doing this?", you might be asking. Mainly, it's because I see far too many heartbreaking "Sorry, I suck at writing! 😩" authors' notes and I want to be a non-AI resource for authors who are anxious or feeling a lack of confidence in their writing skills. Also, I have no impulse or desire to write my own fics, but I still want to contribute in some way.

I'll read stories of any rating, but I have a few hard no's when it comes to proofreading smut (no acts involving minors, no incest, no scat/urine, no emetophilia); that said, I'm not here to judge you or yuck your yum.

But yeah, send me an ask or DM. I try not to overpromise and underdeliver, so there might be times when requests are closed, depending on my schedule. I'm not sure how many takers I'll have, so I can't promise anything about turnaround time once I have your draft, but I'm shooting for 48-72 hours.

Hi! I have never done this before so please bear with me.

I’m working on a multichapter Stardew Valley romance fic between Sebastian x Female Farmer. I have a rough outline and many, many ideas. TW of stalking and referenced sexual assault. Lots of fluff with a loose plot that needs to be ironed out, characterization I’m working on, and going for a complete romance arc. Ya know the drill. While there will be some darker elements I am going for a well rounded, positive fic that is feel good. I probably won’t go farther than a Mature rating, but I’ve never done lemons before so who knows? Might try it. 

Main character also has previous disability by way of Rheumatoid Arthritis. I have RA and wanted to include my experience in the work.

Suggestions for edits / questions / cheerleading / positive feedback is what I’m going for. 

I’ve been writing for a long time and am a huge fan of story and detail. I would love to be a beta reader in return for someone in a similar position. I follow multiple fandoms so feel free to ask even if it’s not SDV! Dragon Age, Harry Potter, Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon, Fullmetal Alchemist, Inuyasha, Star Wars, Pride and Prejudice, Witcher, Attack on Titan are just a few of the many things I love. 

I would prefer any interested beta reader be a fan of Stardew Valley :)

If you’re writing a character with firearms proficiency (Bucky Barnes, Chris Argent, Sheriff Stilinski, whoever) and have a question, feel free to ask me! Seriously, anything. I don’t really understand how it happened, but through a few weird twists in the past several years, I went from never wanting to touch a gun to being involved in competitive target shooting. I mostly do pistol and long-range rifle, but I live with a person who competes in and helps run three-gun (pistol, rifle, shotgun) competitions on the weekends (Zombie Shooters Association, IDPA, USPSA, all rules systems that involve setting up dynamic shooting courses that mimic “realistic” situations, for certain values of realistic.)

Competitive archer for 15+ years, coach for 8+ years, including being the student coach for a nationally known collegiate team, capable of shooting compound, recurve and longbow, able to coach all of the above and horsebow. She’s versed in the National Training System (NTS), BEST method and push-pull forms, and has been banned from her local movie theatre after the first showing of Hunger Games. For Clint fans/writers, she has experience with adaptive archery for disabled vets and Deaf persons.

What the writer should know: I have been a fandom beta for about twelve years, I trained to be an English teacher so I’ve got a good grasp of grammar and I really love writing dialogue, so I like to think I’m pretty good at helping it flow and sound natural. I’m a huge believer in making things better and working with the writer to make sure that their story’s the best it can be.
