Southern Kalos was planned all along!!! 👀 if we look at the finalized map, it seems Southern Kalos was meant to be connected to the rest of the region via Kiloude City, which seems disconnected from the rest of the routes in the beta map as well.
This seems to imply that Southern Kalos was the post-game content alongside Kiloude City itself. I think this makes a lot of sense, it always felt weird to me how Sycamore makes a big deal out of us being able to take a train to Kiloude after becoming Champions but then the city itself is so small and disappointing, there's nothing to do besides Friends Safari (which is extremely small and it does make me wonder if originally, with Southern Kalos being a thing, it was meant to work very differently. Maybe Pokemon based on Friends' data would spawn in different post-game areas in Southern Kalos rather than in the depressing squares of Friends Safari) and the Battle Maison, which is never of much interest for the casual player who isn't into competitive.
I wish I could give this good boy all the PokéPuffs he deserves. Why can't I, Gamefreak, why???

Yet another beta name for Augustine Sycamore, here he's called Charles 😂
I love how from the beta storyboard it's even more clearly established as the very first thing you learn about in the game that Sycamore serves cu- is meant to come across as charming and flirtatious 😂 Also this was also kept in the final version I think, but only now I've realized how much of visual storytelling it is that the player's POV is meant to shift from a beautiful painting to Sycamore's face as if he was just there staring at you intensely until you turn your head away from the painting and towards him lol
I'm glad this storyboard confirms that I'm not crazy for thinking that 90% of Sycamore's cutscenes (especially those from the player's POV) feel like dating sim visuals.
