IMMERSION INTO THE REAL WORLD.
As an architecture student, I experienced a full day immersed in the environment of a professional firm. We were given a tour of the office, introduced to the firm’s scope of work, and had the opportunity to meet everyone. I was especially impressed by the culture of continuous learning, how colleagues actively learn from one another and come together for lunch to discuss new topics. I realized how deeply some projects require focused research and technical investigation, particularly in areas such as window detailing, specialized performance requirements, and testing, much of it from a commercial perspective. We also went on a guided tour from Penn Station to Hudson Yards, where we learned about the history of the area, the reasoning behind its current development, and the materials used, along with how those materials behave over time. I discovered many new things and truly enjoyed the experience. The environment was highly inspiring and motivating, showing me how detailed, engaging, and exciting architectural work can be.
