Will ben be an non foil to anakin by not being redeemed?
Are you asking if Kylo Ren/Ben will be redeemed like Anakin Skywalker in the new films?
If so, I’m not really sure. I’m desperately hoping they don’t follow Anakin’s exact redemption because i) Anakin/Vader died before he actually really had to deal with what it means to be “redeemed” and the actions he performed whilst under the influence of the dark side ii) Kylo Ren/Ben has been set up as a very different kind of character, one who isn’t tempted by the dark side but by the light, but also one who clearly had problems with the while still technically on the light side (though a lot of those could have been Snoke’s fault). This is something we rarely see in mainstream Star Wars media, and it is fascinating.
What I’m hoping for is for Kylo Ren to not be redeemed, necessarily, but to maybe be a sort of grey figure (Grey Jedi/Greys are a thing, and they are awesome) who walks the line between light and dark, bringing true balance to the Force not by being heavily associated with one side but by embodying them both. I want to see him deal with almost three decades of manipulation (because let it be known for a fact that Snoke has been manipulating him from a young age, and that the adults in his life failed to prevent it from happening--and that onus is on them when we’re dealing with a child as young as five) and I want to see the movie and the people around him acknowledge that he has been groomed and manipulated from a young age, and I want him to emerge not as a scion of the light or the dark but as someone who is comfortable in the middle. I want to see him become stronger not by embracing one ideal and holding it over the other but rather by discovering that he can be both, that he doesn’t need the outdated and often problematic and repressive teachings of the Jedi but nor does he need the soul-consuming rage of the dark side. The key is balance, and god more than anything I want Kylo Ren to find it.
