This may be apparent, but my brain's forming a new wrinkle so let me just--

So, we know that after Spamton signed the contract, the benefactor cut them off immediately, as if they had direct control over Spamton's sales- and we know that the benefactor continues to manipulate Spamton's life to some degree by their inability to talk about the Knight or use any prior success or wealth to bulid anything new.

So there's still some contract between them after Spamton signed Tenna's.

But-- what if the benefactor always had this control? Spamton stands out more than any other dark crystal holder bc he exists and interacts even outside of the games, and has canonical alternated versions. No other Dark Crystal holder is this supernatural.

Jevil got the dark crystal, but was locked away, and as far as we know, didn't do much for the benefactor. He just started shooting up the place.

Gerson recieved a crystal, and is potentially benefitting from its knowledge, but rejected it without any consequenses (that we know of... unless the benefactor killed him, but... i doubt it... it's possible, actually.

Meanwhile Spamton was the only person actively struggling before recieving the dark crystal, and is now grossly entagled in prophetic shenanigans.

It's potentially possible that the benefactor was already controlling Spamton's life before the first call, shutting him out from making any sales so that he'd actually do whatever the benefactor said, making him desparate so he'd bite the hook and never let go.

Spamton's unique reliance on the benefactor, they continued to be somewhat loyal to them (Still mentally/emotionally attached) even after getting cut off.

My best guess is that the benefactor wants the prophecy to be fullfilled, as Spamton's influence in TV world includes him building games with prophetic instructions and (potentially) intentionally leaving things in TV world that would enable, inform the player to complete the WYRD route -> the prophecy, and its only if they follow those instructions that Spamton fully enables that route via the thorn ring, which he does not offer, nor even mention unless you complete this route. Its possible Spamton never fully understood the context of what he was doing, just going along with bits and pieces, and pretending he actually knew what it all meant.

Afterall, Spamton just starts blurting out info about the Knight, only to apologize and replace that option, as if he didn't know that was off-limits. (Could just be him being looney, but he never makes this slipup again)

Jevil was living comfortably, entirely indifferent to the prophecy.

Gerson was living a pretty happy life (from what we could tell) and actively disregarded or opposed the prophecy.

Spamton was desparate and stuggling, and consequentially is the largest enabler of the prophecy, and still, to some degree, involved with benefactor.

Just makes me wonder if that was on purpose.

(It could easily just be the benefactor happened to find somone desparate enough, but not even the other Addison understood why he was stuggling so much. Apparently email advertising is still one of the more successful forms of advertising, Spamton just ended up resorting to scams and malware bc the usual means just weren't going through. )

This actually explains why Queen's battery acid is highlighted and associated with Spamton's transformation into a puppet more than any other in-game explanation.
