Bud and Lou are Harley Quinn’s two hyena’s. And they love love getting into trouble for sure. It’s been almost a year (minus a day) since Harley got caught and put in Arkham. They’re excited that she’s getting out. But, then Ace captures them. He thinks that they stole Wonder Woman’s Lasso of Truth. We meet Kanga Jumpa who’s looking for it, and they start off on an adventure through the underworld of the Gotham Villains pets and otherwise animal sidekicks as they look for it. It’s a hilariously awesome ride.

I was pretty sure that I’d like this book. I really enjoy Ben Hed’s other comic, Pet Foolery about Pixie and Brutus, the two unlikely pet friends. But, this book even surpassed the high expectations I had going into it. I mean, Hed managed to have the same vibe as Harley Quinn. And, not even all those writers who have actually written Harley Quinn herself always understand her character (I won’t give names, but, a hint for future Harley comic writers: She’s not just a female DC Deadpool). I truly hope that there is another volume of this maybe, but, it also seems that a lot of these younger-ish aimed books haven’t gotten sequels, which is quite a shame. More Ben Hed, more Art Baltazar.

With all the emphasis on DC’s super-powered pets in recent years, it’s nice to see Bud and Lou, Harley Quinn’s pet hyenas, get their due. And they will in this new all-ages graphic novel by Ben Hed, creator of Pixie and Brutus.
