The whole Istvaan III affair is so embarrassing for Horus ngl, his first big decisive anti-emperor move, his master plan of instantly killing off both the locals rebelling and the emperor loyalists within the legions instead leading to a several months drawn out siege against the loyalist remenants... Especially after all the dramatic and ominous shit he was saying to hype up the plan? *chefs kiss* 10/10, Ben Counter my respect to you
Have you read Galaxy in Flames by Ben Counter (2006)?
yes
no
I didn't finish it
I've never heard of it
"Filth licking dogs!" Spat the machine-spirit. "Would that I had hands to wring their necks! Would that I had bowels that I might void them on their corpses!"
There was a reason techmarine Korgon tended to converse with the machine-spirit alone.
From: Architect of fate: endeavour of Will, ben counter
Thoughts so far: Mhotep (the Thousand Sons Astartes) is cool. Very cold and professional.
Zadkiel is just one evil hammy bastard. Love him in all of his megalomaniacal glory. Word Bearers are fun like that.
The Ultramarines are rather meh so far. Maybe I will warm up to them a bit more when the story goes on a bit.
The Space Wolves are currently just the usual Space Vikings. I mean, they get introduced with a Drunken Brawl.
But the World Eaters are not mentioned to have the nails come to think of it... A few of Angron's boys don't have them? Why are they even here?
Story... Don't know yet. I think the main focus rests on the "Oh fuck" realization of the UM and Co. that they now have to fight the Word Bearers (among others) in the lead up to Calth and less on the plot point of stopping the Abyss.

Having a surprisingly good time with Galaxy in Flames. Ben Counter actually using the characters and staying in character while giving them development and adding to the worldbuilding is great, which is a sad thing to have to praise but well. Pacing is also a hell of a lot better. It's a solid book. I'm at about 250 pages, read 110 today so far.
the Dancer spat in frustration. 'for the blood of Perturabo, for the life-stuff of the warp's prophet, we will do as you wish. But break this convenant, delete was was written, and terrible shall be the warp's vengeance!"
